Each facial expression communicates your emotions and enlivens your words. However, they also pull on and crease your skin. Over time, wrinkles form and become more noticeable. Botox® at Awaken Aesthetics is a nonsurgical way to relax these wrinkles and restore your smoother, refreshed appearance.
What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?
While it now has several relatives, such as Daxxify®, Botox® was the first and remains the most widely used version of botulinum toxin injections. It has been widely used in medical and aesthetic fields for decades. Botulinum toxin is a wrinkle-smoothing neurotoxin that works by interrupting the signals that your facial nerves send to your muscles. Without these signals, the motions that form wrinkles temporarily stop.
How Long Does it Take Botox® to Work?
When injected, the botulinum toxin in Botox® needs to reach your facial nerves and begin to act on them. Some people notice changes within about three days, with full results developing in seven to ten days. You will notice that your wrinkles become less noticeable and that you look refreshed and relaxed.
Once it starts to work, Botox® results usually last three to four months. We recommend scheduling your next appointment ahead of time so your wrinkles have no opportunity to reappear. Consistent use of Botox® may help the treated muscles stay relaxed for a longer time.
Is There Any Downtime After Botox®?
People often refer to injectables like Botox® as “lunchtime” procedures since you can have treatment during your lunch break and return to work. While there is no downtime, you may notice a small amount of redness, bruising, or swelling in the injection area.
Avoid rubbing or putting more than light pressure on your face for 24 hours. You should also wait 24 hours to resume physical activities. Follow any other instructions provided by your Awake Aesthetics expert injector.
Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?
With men and women around the world enjoying its wrinkle-smoothing results, Botox® is safe and effective for almost anyone. Good candidates have realistic expectations and want to prevent or address expression lines and wrinkles. Individuals may start preventative Botox® injections at the earliest appearance of wrinkles to prevent them from becoming more noticeable.
You should not have Botox® in an area where you have an active skin condition or infection. People with certain medical conditions might not be candidates for this treatment. Only a consultation will allow our expert injectors to determine whether Botox® is the right treatment for your goals.
Do I Need Botox® or Dermal Fillers?
Because both are injectable treatments for lines and wrinkles, people often wonder whether they need Botox® or dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are used to treat lines and wrinkles caused by skin laxity and other facial changes, while Botox® is used to treat lines caused by facial motions. Some people have both treatments for their best results.
