While men and women experience hair loss in different ways, anyone who experiences this problem can find that it affects their confidence. Whether you struggle with the class “male-pattern baldness” or overall thinning, PRP hair treatment can restore healthy hair growth without the side effects of medications or the recovery time of surgery.

What is PRP Hair Treatment?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Platelets are a component of your immune system that responds to injuries and helps repair damage throughout the body. When injected into your scalp, they trigger changes that make hair follicles more active and healthy. While PRP works alone, it can also boost the results of other hair treatments. Because PRP uses your own platelets, it offers a safe, powerful way to trigger hair regrowth.

How Does PRP Hair Treatment Work?

When you arrive for your PRP hair restoration session, we will begin by taking a small amount of your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the layers. One of these layers is a clear fluid called plasma, which is full of active platelets. During treatment, the PRP is injected into your scalp, where it increases the supply of oxygen and nutrients, rejuvenates dormant hair follicles, and helps them grow thicker, healthier-looking hair.

How Long Does PRP Hair Treatment Last?

Each person will respond differently to PRP hair treatment, but most people will need several treatments over time to see their full results. The number of sessions needed varies, and your Awaken Aesthetics expert will develop a treatment plan based on your concerns.

Most people start to see results within a few months of beginning PRP hair restoration. The new hair will grow out over time, so the length of your current hair will help determine how long it takes to look fuller and thicker. How long PRP results last varies widely, but many people have a maintenance treatment every six months to a year, depending on their needs. We will work with you to establish the best schedule for your needs.

Is There Any Downtime After PRP Hair Treatment?

You can return to most activities after your PRP session, although you will need to avoid strenuous exercise for the next 48 hours. Your scalp may feel sensitive and swollen for up to a few days, so use care while washing and styling your hair. No downtime is required, and treatment should not interrupt your busy schedule.

Am I a Candidate for PRP Hair Treatment?

Because everything used in PRP hair treatment comes from your own body, it works safely for almost anyone. Certain types of hair loss may respond better than others. Good candidates should have reasonable expectations and be prepared to wait a few months to see results. PRP may not be recommended if you have certain blood disorders or other medical conditions that affect your platelets.
