Smiling, frowning, and raising your eyebrows help you express yourself. They also cause facial muscles to pull on the skin to make these expressions. Over time, lines and wrinkles form in these areas of frequent motion. Botox® quiets these facial muscles so your skin can relax, letting lines and wrinkles become smooth.
What is Botox®?
Facial muscles cause wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), horizontal lines across the forehead, and vertical lines between the eyebrows. Botox® targets muscles that cause these lines and wrinkles. Within days you can smooth out your furrowed forehead or rejuvenate the skin around the eyes.
How Does Botox® Work?
Botox® works using botulinum toxin to interfere with the communication between the nerves and facial muscles. The nerves stop telling the muscles to contract, allowing the wrinkles in the skin to relax away. Botox® has no lasting effects on the nerve or muscle, and both will return to normal when the Botox® wears off.

What are the Benefits of Botox®?
There’s a reason Botox® holds its place as one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. It offers more benefits than people realize.
Botox® relaxes wrinkles on the face and keeps them relaxed for months. During this time, your skin enjoys a rest from the constant stress. Getting regular Botox® to keep the skin relaxed can prevent lines and wrinkles from getting worse.
No expression lines yet? Botox® Can help you keep it that way. By keeping your facial muscles relaxed with regular maintenance treatments, you can keep those lines and wrinkles from developing so your skin stays looking naturally smooth and youthful.
Doctors have been using Botox® for medical purposes for decades. People with conditions like excess sweating, muscle spasms, and eye twitches can find relief with Botox®. In some cases, this treatment can help people lead a more normal, enjoyable life.
What is the Difference Between Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®?
All three of these products use the same botulinum toxin, but each formula has variations. Botox®, the most familiar to most people, has been in use longer than the others. It usually takes three to seven days to see results, and you can expect these results to last about four months.
Xeomin® uses a more refined version of the botulinum toxin. This may decrease the likelihood of a reaction, although reactions to any of these products are rare. Dysport® is intended to give natural-looking results in the forehead and brow area. Some people respond better to these options than to Botox®.
Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?
You will not have any downtime. You can go right back to work or daily activities. Possible side effects include minor swelling or bruising. People refer to Botox® as a “lunchtime” procedure because you can have it on your lunch break and return to work.
