What is Revision Surgery?

Revision surgery is performed to correct the results of previous cosmetic surgery. While most procedures go well, an inexperienced surgeon, a miscommunication about desired results, or even problems with healing can result in imperfect results.

Dr. Ahn specializes in these revision surgeries, which require experience, skill, and precision. Often, correcting a problem can prove more difficult than the procedure that initiated the problem. However, you can trust Dr. Ahn to correct the things you dislike and leave you with the results you wanted from the beginning.

When Should You Consider a Revision eyelid lift or Facelift?

After a procedure, you will need to wait several months for the results to fully appear before you make a final decision about revision surgery. Some apparent problems will resolve themselves in the weeks following surgery.

If you have fully recovered from your procedure and still feel unsatisfied with your results, you may start to consider a revision eyelid lift or facelift. An experienced surgeon can turn your undesirable results into stunning ones.

How Does Revision Eyelid Lift or Facelift Surgery Work?

To perform a revision facelift or eyelid lift surgery, your surgeon will create a plan for how to address your needs. Each person’s surgery must be individualized for the issue they want to correct. The procedure may be as intensive as the original one.

Your surgeon will follow existing scars from your previous procedure as much as possible to avoid creating new ones. The revision procedure can address concerns like asymmetry, drooping, and too much or not enough correction during the first procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Revision Surgery?

If you feel unhappy with the results of a facelift or eyelid lift, you may be a good candidate for revision surgery. You should wait at least six to eight months after your first surgery, as this gives the tissue time to heal and the scars time to fade. Once you have completely healed, Dr. Ahn will consult with you to decide if this procedure is right for you.

What is the Recovery Like from Revision Surgery?

Recovery from revision surgery may follow a path similar to your original surgery. You will usually be able to leave after the procedure, but you will need someone to drive you home due to the general anesthetic.

Bruising and swelling can take several weeks to resolve, although some swelling may last for a few months. Depending on how intensive your surgery was, you may be back to work in anywhere from three days to two weeks. You can return to most activities after a few days but should follow your doctor’s instructions about avoiding certain activities and how to care for your post-surgical face.

What Results Will I See From Revision Surgery?

You will see the results you originally wanted, with your concerns about your previous results now resolved. After healing, you can expect the results you and your surgeon discussed during your consultation, with your results revised to make them more pleasing and make you feel more confident.
