How Can I Effectively Treat My Undereye Bags?

If you have undereye bags, it may feel like there’s nothing you can do to make yourself look refreshed and rejuvenated. Serums, creams, and even getting a full night’s sleep can do little against the bags that might make you look older than you actually are. Is there anything that will help you get rid of your undereye bags for good?

As it turns out, there are a lot of treatments that can accomplish this goal – and they’re all available at Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA!

Whether you’re looking for a non-invasive treatment or a surgical procedure, here’s how Awaken Aesthetics can effectively treat your undereye bags:

  • Lower Blepharoplasty: This surgical procedure is an excellent approach to getting rid of moderate to severe undereye bags. The lower blepharoplasty procedure is performed by making small incisions along the lower eyelid. Once the incisions have been created, the plastic surgeon removes fat pads and rearranges muscles to create a smoother look. The surgery also removes excess skin that might exacerbate the appearance of undereye bags.
  • Facial Fat Grafting: Undereye bags can look worse if other facial areas are losing key volume. Facial fat […]

What are My Treatment Options for Bumps of the Face and Neck?

Do you have bumps on your face and neck – but they’re not acne?

As it turns out, a lot of people suffer from different variations of these bumps. The most common of these are small, hard bumps are known as “milia” – and they’re often mistaken for whiteheads. Instead, they’re tiny protein-filled cysts that form when dead skin cells get trapped underneath new skin.

Other skin bumps include keratosis pilaris, which occurs when keratin builds up in pores and eventually clogs hair follicles. These hard bumps are usually red in appearance, which is why many people refer to them as “chicken skin.”

No matter what kinds of bumps are plaguing your skin, there are multiple treatments out there that can help you get the smooth, picture-perfect skin you’re looking for. At Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA, we offer the following treatments for bumps on the face and neck:

  • Creams: Some bumps respond well to cream medications, especially ones that contain retinol. Prescription-strength retinol can slough away dead skin, which is key to eliminating the bumps trapped underneath.
  • Injectable Medications: Cortizone injections are excellent solutions for cyst-like bumps, especially those that don’t seem to respond […]

Which Filler Should I Choose?

Looking for a quick and effective way to erase years off your appearance? Then it’s time to take advantage of fillers – one of the most popular techniques for improving facial wrinkles while adding youthful facial contours.

Fillers have been a staple in plastic surgery practices for many years. As a result of their popularity, several brands have created their own versions of fillers, each with different formulas and functions designed to provide a more youthful appearance.  But with all that choice comes questions, like:

“Which Dermal Filler Should I Choose?”

Let’s take a quick look at a few popular fillers to see which one is the right option for you:

  • Restylane: This filler contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound that promotes collagen production while increasing the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Restylane is an excellent injectable for treating deep folds, wrinkles, and volume loss, particularly those around the nose and mouth. Results can last for up to 12 months.
  • Voluma: This filler (made by Juvederm) is similar to Restylane in that it contains hyaluronic acid. However, the injectable gel is thicker than other dermal fillers, as it’s designed to add volume to cheeks that appear hollow or sunken-in. Voluma can also minimize the […]

How Can I Tighten the Skin Around My Face & Décolletage – Without Surgery?

When it comes to revealing symptoms of aging, many of us pinpoint our faces as the main culprit. It’s no surprise; after all, there’s an entire beauty industry dedicated to minimizing the look of sagging facial skin. But as it turns out, it might not just be facial skin that is giving your age away – it could be your décolletage as well.

The chest region has surprisingly thin skin, making it particularly vulnerable to wrinkles, fine lines, and creases. Additionally, constant motions, sleeping positions, and lack of sunscreen protection can all add up to pretty significant sagging. To make matters worse, many of our skincare habits skip giving the décolletage some much-needed TLC.

All of these factors can add up to facial and décolletage skin that’s in serious need of skin tightening.

At Awaken Aesthetics, we use Ultherapy ultrasound therapy to tighten and tone skin that’s starting to sag. This FDA-approved device delivers focused ultrasound energy to varying depths of the skin, which eventually tightens and tones the skin through direct remodeling of tissues and generation of collagen.

Most patients need about one to three Ultherapy treatments in order to obtain the best results possible. One procedure usually costs between $2,000-$3,500, […]

What Is the Difference Between Juvederm and Restylane?

When it comes to choosing the right filler for your anti-aging needs, it may seem as though there is a world of options out there.  You’re definitely not wrong – major pharmaceutical companies are continually committed to developing and releasing new fillers designed to minimize the appearance of stubborn wrinkles. As a result, two major fillers have emerged as leaders in the anti-aging injectables field: Juvederm and Restylane.

The only question is, what are the differences between Juvederm and Restylane?

At first glance, there aren’t that many differences between the two.  Both Juvederm and Restylane are dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound that increases the skin’s moisture retention and kick-starts collagen production.  Over time and with regular treatments, both dermal fillers can improve the look and feel of skin with the following benefits:

  • Smoother skin
  • Better moisture retention
  • Minimization of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Minimization of deep nasolabial folds

One of the main differences between the two dermal fillers is in the thickness of the hyaluronic acid gels.  When the product is injected into the treatment area, the gel acts as scaffolding to add instant volume.  Restylane has a slightly thicker consistency than Juvederm; however, both dermal fillers have been shown to be […]

Botox vs. Dysport: Is There a Difference?

With so many anti-wrinkle injections available on the market today, it can be difficult to identify what precise treatment will help you achieve that smooth, younger-looking appearance you want. Two main options – Botox and Dysport – use safe and effective neurotoxins to temporarily interrupt nerve signaling between the brain and facial muscles. This effectively stops muscles from contracting, which helps relieve deep-set wrinkles between the eyebrows (furrows) and around the eyes (crow’s feet).

Given that both injectables result in the same outcome, are there any major differences between the two? What should you keep in mind when choosing one or the other for your next anti-wrinkle treatment?

  • Results: Some studies have shown that Dysport injections can produce results earlier than Botox. However, it’s worth noting that this difference is just a matter of days; most patients can see final results from Botox within one to two weeks. Some patients report seeing results last longer with Dysport as opposed to Botox.

  • Body Response: Although Botox and Dysport contain the same neurotoxin as an active ingredient, your body may respond differently to a particular injectable. It can be a learning process, so don’t be afraid to request another anti-wrinkle injectable if you weren’t happy with your […]

What Are the Many Uses of Botox?

When you hear the word “Botox”, what immediately comes to mind?

If you’re like 99% of people, you probably imagine an injection that’s designed to help smooth away the toughest forehead lines and wrinkles.  You’d be right – Botox is still one of the most popular anti-aging treatments available on the market today.  Botox contains botulinum toxin A, a type of neurotoxin that “paralyzes” muscles at the injection site.  This effect helps relax the skin above the muscles, creating a smooth and younger-looking appearance.

As it turns out, that’s not all Botox can do.

Botox: A Surprisingly Diverse Treatment

If you’ve ever had painful migraines or embarrassingly excessive sweating, then it’s time to think outside the Botox box.  While Botox was originally developed for the treatment of forehead lines and wrinkles, researchers have uncovered more than a few surprising side effects…

Many of which can solve some pretty debilitating problems.

Let’s take a look at some of the many uses for Botox:

  • Excessive Sweating: If you sweat through prescription deodorant, Botox could help you put an end to an embarrassing problem.  During clinical trials, researchers noted that patients with sweating problems reported experiencing a lapse in their symptoms.  As it turns out, botulinum toxin helps turn off the […]

Radiesse or Juvederm for the lips and mouth area: Which is Best

The first thing people see is your smile – but are you worried that people are only ever going to see your smile lines?

Smile lines are the parenthetical creases that stretch from the corners of your mouth all the way up to your nose.  Also known as nasolabial folds, these lines often appear after decades of repeated muscle movements.  That means years of smiling, laughing, and talking can deepen the crease around the corners of the mouth, resulting in significant wrinkles that can age you.

Fortunately, there are multiple treatments on the market today that claim to minimize the appearance of smile lines.  Two of these treatments include Radiesse and Juvederm.  Both are popular fillers that are used to tackle common aging complaints.  Both can help clients look years younger.  But when it comes down to it, which treatment can help clients treat smile lines…

Radiesse or Juvederm?  The Answer May Surprise You

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler that’s used to instantly create volume in the treatment site, thus minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  Radiesse, however, is too thick to place around the lips, which is why this filler isn’t recommended for lip wrinkles.

Radiesse is a gel filler made from […]
