If you have sagging skin around your neck, jawline, or underneath your eyes (or all three!), you may be a good candidate for facelift surgery. This cosmetic treatment aims to reposition drooping facial muscles to a more youthful placement, as well as remove excess skin that may have resulted due to skin laxity loss.

But did you know there’s more than one facelift option out there?

Let’s take a look at the main differences between a facelift and a mini facelift.

The 4 Main Differences Between a Facelift and a Mini Facelift

1. The targeted treatment areas vary.

A full facelift is designed to treat skin sagging issues that extend from below the eyes to the neckline. A mini facelift targets a smaller treatment area, in that it addresses sagging muscles around the neck and jawline.

Keep in mind that neither a facelift nor a mini facelift can address drooping skin and muscles around the forehead region.

2. The duration of results may be different.

Results from a mini facelift procedure can last up to five years, whereas results from a full facelift can last up to ten years.

3. There’s less recovery time with a mini facelift.

If you want a facelift option that involves less downtime, you may want to choose the mini facelift. Since the procedure addresses fewer facial muscles, that means patients don’t have to spend as much time recuperating after their surgery.

4. Incision sizes can be different.

Incisions tend to be smaller with a mini facelift, whereas a full facelift requires more. This is because the latter aims to readjust and correct more facial muscles, thus requiring a larger incision.

Not to worry – no matter which option you pick, your plastic surgeon can place the incisions in areas where scarring won’t be obvious to the naked eye.
