Achieve smooth, youthful-looking skin with this customizable form of laser skin rejuvenation.
What is HELIX Skin Resurfacing?
Most lasers use a single mode of treatment to address specific types of skin concerns. At Awaken Aesthetics, we strive to offer only the best, most effective treatment options so you achieve optimal results.

The HELIX skin resurfacing laser is a combination system that offers the benefits of both a fractionated ablative CO2 laser and non-ablative wavelengths, making it the most customizable option available. HELIX can address a wide range of textural and pigmentation issues to provide you with smoother, more luminous skin that looks youthful and firm.
How Does HELIX Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
Your Awaken Aesthetics provider will customize your HELIX treatment to your needs. It uses a combination of a fractionated ablative CO2 laser and a non-ablative 1570nm laser to create a range of effects. When using the fractionated ablative mode of the CO2 laser, HELIX works by removing small columns of damaged skin. This type of laser is also known as Coolpeel and Deka Pulse. The Coolpeel treats just the very surface of the skin, usually epithelium only, resulting in very low downtime. The Deka Pulse can penetrate deeper into the skin for greater results and/or tougher skin damage.
The 1570nm laser is non-ablative, also known as Sultra, which means it produces effects in the deeper layers of the skin without removing or damaging the outermost layers. HELIX can be used so that it is ablative only (Coolpeel or Deka Pulse), non-ablative only (Sultra), or a combination of ablative and non-ablative (Fusion). Each option depends on the skin concerns to be addressed, skin damage, and patient skin type. Only HELIX can combine these two laser functions in a single session to make the most of your time and investment.
HELIX laser treatments can address concerns such as:
- Skin laxity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Rough texture
- Some forms of hyperpigmentation
- Sun damage
- Enlarged pores
- Dullness
- Acne scars
- Uneven skin tone
Who is a Good Candidate for HELIX Skin Resurfacing?
Because HELIX laser skin rejuvenation is so customizable, it can be used on almost anyone. Depending on your needs, it can be adjusted to treat most skin types and tones, from mild to significant skin concerns. Good candidates for this treatment have reasonable expectations and want to address issues such as skin laxity, fine lines, and sun damage.
You should not have HELIX treatments if you have an active skin condition or infection in the treatment area, are pregnant, or have certain medical conditions. We recommend a consultation to determine whether HELIX is the best type of skin rejuvenation for your goals and concerns. Sometimes, we recommend prepping your skin with anti-pigmentation creams or other agents, stopping certain topical products, and/or taking oral medications prior to your treatment. If needed, your provider can recommend alternative treatments like microneedling or Sofwave™.

What to Expect During a HELIX Skin Resurfacing Treatment?
Your experience during your HELIX session depends on the functions used and the intensity of your treatment. Numbing cream and other methods are available to keep you comfortable. Less intensive treatments may feel like pulses of heat or having a rubber band snapped on your skin, while deep CO2 treatments can be more intense. Your provider will explain what to expect and monitor your comfort at all times.
What Results Will I See With HELIX Skin Resurfacing?
The HELIX laser can provide different results depending on your goals. You may begin to see improvements in your skin’s texture and brightness within a few days of treatment, with results evolving over the next few months.
Deeper anti-aging treatments that trigger collagen formation have results that develop gradually over about three months. Some people may achieve their desired results with one treatment, while others may benefit from two or more.
Is There Any Downtime With HELIX Skin Resurfacing?
The versatility of HELIX laser skin rejuvenation allows your provider to control your downtime. While traditional CO2 laser treatments often involve extensive downtime, the gentler HELIX laser offers a more comfortable treatment for the same exceptional benefits.
Your skin will typically look red and mildly swollen after treatment, and it may feel sensitive. Avoid using harsh products, other irritants, and makeup for at least a week while your skin heals. Redness can last for several days or more, and intensive treatments may result in peeling. Your provider will tell you what to expect.
