Botox® vs. Dysport®: What’s the Difference?

You may have noticed that your skin starts to crease in spots when you smile or frown. These expression lines and wrinkles will deepen over time. Fortunately, Botox® and Dysport® will stop their progress and smooth your skin. These anti-aging treatments work in the same basic way but have a few differences.

What are Botox® and Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® are neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins. They use a compound called botulinum toxin that works by relaxing facial muscles. Both anti-aging treatments are FDA-approved. Botox® is approved to treat crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and forehead creases. Dysport® is approved for glabellar lines but also works in other areas. They both work by interrupting signals to the facial muscles that tell them to contract. View More Patient Results

What is Botox® Made Of?

You may already know about Botox®, an injectable wrinkle-smoothing treatment. However, do you know what your Botox® is made of or how it works? Remember that all the effects of Botox® are temporary and cause no lasting effects on the facial nerves or muscles.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is a brand name for botulinum neurotoxin used for cosmetic and medical purposes. The active ingredient in Botox® is botulinum toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This toxin is known for temporarily relaxing muscles, making it a useful tool for treating various conditions. Botox® has been used extensively to treat lines, wrinkles, and various medical conditions like hyperhidrosis.

What is Botox® Made Of?

Botox® is made from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. The toxin is isolated and refined to create a sterile, safe product that can be used for relaxing facial muscles. The exact process for creating Botox® is complex, and it involves several steps to ensure the purity and potency of the final product.

In addition to the active ingredient, Botox® also contains other substances, including albumin and sodium chloride. These ingredients are […]

What are the Benefits of Botox®?

Smiling, frowning, and raising your eyebrows help you express yourself. They also cause facial muscles to pull on the skin to make these expressions. Over time, lines and wrinkles form in these areas of frequent motion. Botox® quiets these facial muscles so your skin can relax, letting lines and wrinkles become smooth View More Patient Results

What is Botox®?

Facial muscles cause wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), horizontal lines across the forehead, and vertical lines between the eyebrows. Botox® targets muscles that cause these lines and wrinkles. Within days you can smooth out your furrowed forehead or rejuvenate the skin around the eyes.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® works using botulinum toxin to interfere with the communication between the nerves and facial muscles. The nerves stop telling the muscles to contract, allowing the wrinkles in the skin to relax away. Botox® has no lasting effects on the nerve or muscle, and both will return to normal when the Botox® wears off.

How Often Should You Get Botox®?

Want to try out Botox® for yourself, but not sure how often you’ll need to schedule appointments?

Take a look at our answer to this popular question: “How often should you get Botox®?”

*Individual Results May Vary

Recommended Botox® Schedule

The right Botox® schedule really comes down to the individual. For example, if your results last longer because you’ve had Botox® before, you may not need to follow the same maintenance schedule as another Botox® user.

With that in mind, we usually remind Botox® clients that their results will last three to four months; therefore, they should expect to schedule up to four Botox® appointments each year to maintain their results.

If you’ve had Botox® done in the past, your results may last longer, as Botox® can have a cumulative effect. For that reason, regular users may only need to schedule two Botox® appointments each year.

Is Botox Safe?

Let’s face it: You’re ready to get rid of those annoying forehead lines and wrinkles. You’ve tried plenty of serums and moisturizers, but nothing seems to fade the appearance of frown lines that have started cropping up in recent years.

If you’re like most people trying to tackle signs of forehead aging, you may be a good candidate for Botox injections. But maybe the thought of getting injections – especially so close to your eyes – makes you feel a little cautious.

That’s why we’re about to do a little digging around this common question: Is Botox actually safe? View More Patient Results

Is Botox Safe?

Rest easy, because Botox is considered to be extremely safe. In fact, it’s so safe that the FDA has approved Botox for multiple uses, including treating fine lines, crow’s feet, and even minimizing symptoms of migraines and hyperhidrosis (talk about multi-tasking!).

In order to get FDA approval, Botox had to go through multiple clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy and safety at treating aging symptoms. From 1983 until 2003, Botox was only shown to […]

What Signs of Aging Do Botox Injections Target?

Interested in learning more about anti-aging injections – but not sure which one is right for you?

It’s no wonder: Lately, it seems as though there are more anti-aging injections available than ever before. From dermal fillers to Botox, there’s a treatment for almost every type of aging symptom out there. The only problem is, how do you know which injection treats your specific aging symptoms?

More specifically, what signs of aging do Botox injections target? VIEW OUR GALLERY

Botox is an FDA-approved anti-aging treatment that uses its active ingredient – botulinum toxin type A – to smooth away the appearance of forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines. The botulinum toxin (sounds scary, but it’s perfectly safe!) blocks the nerve signals that are sent by the brain to the corresponding muscles. By blocking the nerve signals, the muscles are tricked into remaining relatively motionless.

As a result, the skin above the muscle area becomes much more relaxed, which helps alleviate the appearance of deep lines caused by brow furrowing, squinting, and more.

Botox is perhaps one of the most popular anti-aging injections, and for good reason: it has an almost-immediate effect on […]

Will My Botox Results Look Natural?

By now, you probably know that Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging injectables on the market today. It’s no wonder – even when it was first introduced in the late 90s, Botox’s ability to smooth away the appearance of deep furrow lines on the forehead and around the eyes took the world by storm.

But with its rising popularity came another observation: When improperly used, Botox could lead to an unnatural, “frozen” appearance. From reality television to celebrity gossip magazines, it became all-too-easy to spot who went a bit too overboard with Botox injections. VIEW OUR GALLERY

Perhaps that’s why so many people are a bit nervous about their first Botox treatment. They want to harness the injectable’s ability to take years off of their appearance, but they don’t want to look “obvious” about it. Perhaps that’s why the most popular question about Botox tends to be: “Will my Botox results look natural?”

The answer largely depends on the person who is delivering the injection. Quite frankly, an inexperienced injectionist may end up injecting too much Botox, which means you may end up looking unnaturally frozen. That’s why it’s always recommended […]
