A

s people age or have excessive sun damage, the byproduct is usually an angry, tired face that leaves people feeling and looking older than they actually are. The eyebrow/eyelid region is the main area that creates this old and angry appearance. The gradual descent of forehead skin and eyebrows magnifies the droopiness of the upper eyelids. The daily facial expressions that engage your forehead; whether you’re confused, laughing, or crying, cause your forehead to always stretch and contract. Lax skin added with these daily expressions can lead to the development of deep creases between the eyebrows. Aged and/or sun damaged skin can push excess skin into the upper eyelid, causing a heavy, crowded, tired look to your eyes which cannot be alleviated by a blepharoplasty or eyelift alone.

Brow Lift/Forehead Rejuvenation

There are several surgical and non-surgical ways to rejuvenate the forehead and bring the eyebrows back into their proper position without that “surprised” or “clown” appearance. Dr. Ahn will be able to help you make an educated decision on what procedure would best achieve your desired look. The time-tested cosmetic surgery procedures known as forehead or brow lift addresses this specific problem. Although the brow lift can be done as an isolated procedure, it is commonly performed in combination with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Together these procedures help provide a more rejuvenated look to the entire upper face and forehead. The brow lift is also commonly performed in tandem with a facelift.

There are many different types of brow lift techniques. Our surgeons at Awaken are experts with all the different approaches and tailor the procedure to the patient’s needs and individual anatomy.

Endoscopic Brow Lift or Endobrow

This surgery is done with lighted telescopes passed through small incisions hidden within the scalp. The brow can be repositioned to enhance the beauty of your eyes with minimal downtime. In addition to less swelling and bruising, the endoscopic brow lift also results in less numbness across the scalp.

Petrichial Brow Lift

If your hairline is positioned farther back than normal, this may be the best procedure for you. Here, an incision is made just in front of the hairline. The incisions are designed such that the final scar is barely visible. Using this technique, the brow can be repositioned to a more desirable level while lowering what is considered to be a high forehead or receding hairline.

Temporal Brow Lift

This elevates the tail of the brow and is often reserved for women seeking a more feminine and gently arched brow.

Trichial Brow Lift

Similar to the petrichial brow lift except that is does not shorten the forehead.

Direct brow lift & Indirect brow lift

In the direct brow lift, an incision is placed just above the brow, while the indirect brow lift places the incision within a well-developed horizontal forehead or eyelid crease. Direct and indirect brow lifts are most often performed on men, particularly those who have male pattern baldness that does not make them candidates for other brow lift techniques.

Surgery can be performed under light to medium sedation with local anesthesia. The duration of the surgery can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours and can be combined with other procedures.

What types of procedures may be combined with eyebrow lift?

This surgery is also commonly performed concurrently with other procedures such as upper/lower eyelid blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), or facelift to achieve an overall refreshed appearance.

Why Awaken Aesthetics for your eyebrow procedure?

Although many (plastic, dermatological, cosmetic, oral-maxillary, otolaryngologist, ophthalmologist) surgeons today perform facial surgery, very few actually limit their practice to specialize in the eyes and surrounding face. Dr. Ahn is a specialis in facial plastic surgery, specifically to this area. This is why the surgeons at Awaken Aesthetics were voted (Daily Breeze, BestofLA) as one of the top cosmetic surgeons. Dr. Ahn has a global patient base, attracting patients from all over the country and internationally.

What type of anesthesia is used for this procedure?

The surgery is performed under light sedation with local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes to an hour to perform. It is a relatively shorter surgery without the need for general anesthesia (unless combined with other procedures such as a facelift).

What is the recovery like?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort after the procedure. Discoloration is minimal. Majority of the swelling will generally improve over 5-7 days, but it will take several weeks for all the swelling to resolve. Most individuals will be able to return to work and social activities within 7 days although some swelling will still be present.
