t Awaken Aesthetics we use Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to combat hair loss in both male and female patients. PRP is a rejuvenating technique that renews the cells and stimulates hair growth. Clinical studies indicate that PRP may be especially beneficial for treating androgenic alopecia or inherited hair loss.

How PRP works

Platelets play an important role in tissue repair, as they enable the release of growth factors to heal injured areas of the body. Research into the benefits of PRP therapy in regenerative medicine is ongoing. However, medical studies already conducted have delivered encouraging results that support the use of PRP in hair restoration. The outcomes suggest that PRP slows the thinning of the hair.

The procedure

Blood is drawn from the patient in a similar manner to a routine blood test, and it is then spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets from the rest of the blood cells. The separated plasma also includes growth factors that stimulate the stem cells, and speed up the body’s healing process. The PRP is then injected into the scalp into the bald or thinning areas, to promote hair restoration.

The results

PRP for hair restoration is an emerging science, so individual results with treatment will vary, and success is not guaranteed. However, in clinical studies carried out, the results of which have been published in Dermatologic Surgery, patients have responded positively to PRP therapy for hair loss.

Who is a good candidate?

PRP  is recommended for people with thinning hair, as it strengthens the hair follicle, and makes hair thicker. It is not recommended for individuals with complete hair loss.
