What is Jeuveau®?

People who wanted to smooth expression lines and wrinkles used to have one option: Botox®. At Awaken Aesthetics, we still love this time-tested treatment. However, everyone benefits from having more choices. Jeuveau® is a botulinum toxin wrinkle treatment that addresses lines and wrinkles. FDA-approved in 2019, it has added a valuable new tool to your provider’s wrinkle-smoothing toolkit. This injectable treatment provides smooth, youthful-looking results that last several months. 

How Does Jeuveau® (Botulinum Toxin) Work?

Like its relatives, Jeuveau® uses a compound called botulinum toxin. Tiny doses of this toxin target specific facial muscles. These muscles create expression lines and wrinkles by pulling and creasing the skin. Over time, these creases become deeper and more long-lasting. Jeuveau® interrupts the signals between your facial muscles and the nerves that control them. As a result, the muscles stop contracting, and your skin relaxes. 

All botulinum toxin products work the same way on a molecular level. Jeuveau® travels to the facial nerves that trigger muscle contractions, temporarily halting certain signals. Without these signals, your facial muscles stop creasing your skin. The tiny doses only affect the desired muscles, leaving the rest of your face able to move naturally. Jeuveau® wears off over time, allowing the nerves and muscles to resume normal functions. Some people may find that Jeuveau® lasts longer than other wrinkle smoothers, while others may prefer a different one. 

Who is a Good Candidate for Jeuveau®?

Individuals who have had Botox® typically make good candidates for Jeuveau®. You may be a good candidate if you have expression lines and wrinkles, especially between your brows. Since Jeuveau® uses the same botulinum toxin as its relatives, your best choice will depend on your unique reactions to each one. 

You should not have Jeuveau® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You may not be a good candidate if you have certain medical conditions or have had a negative reaction to Jeuveau® or similar treatments in the past. If you have lines and wrinkles caused by facial volume loss, your provider may recommend dermal fillers. 

What to Expect During Jeuveau® Treatment 

A Jeuveau® treatment usually takes about fifteen minutes. You will receive several injections in the treatment area during that time. Your provider may apply numbing cream if you prefer. Getting Jeuveau® is such a quick, effortless procedure that you can stop in on your lunch break for treatment. You can leave immediately and return to your regular activities. 

What Results Will I See With Jeuveau®?

Jeuveau® results may start to appear within a day or two. Full results usually take about a week to develop. Jeuveau® lasts three to four months for most people. While similar to most other botulinum toxin injectables, this duration varies between individuals. Your Awaken Aesthetics provider will work with you to find out which one gives you the best results. 

Is There Any Downtime With Jeuveau®? 

Jeuveau® requires no downtime, and you can return to work or your daily routine. Some people notice small bruises or minor swelling, but these effects usually fade within a day or two. Like Botox®, Jeuveau® provides a convenient way to smooth lines and wrinkles without a delay in your busy schedule.
