uvederm is an injectable gel that is specially formulated to soften moderate to severe facial wrinkles, particularly those around the nose and mouth. It is now an integral part of facial rejuvenation treatment, because it corrects changes in the facial appearance that occur due to aging, and makes your face look younger. Juvederm XC is derived from hyaluronic acid, which is a component that is normally found in the body. It acts as a moisturizer, and is often present in the skin and bone, but breaks down as we age. Since Juvederm is compounded in the lab from non-animal sources, there is little chance of patients having an allergic reaction.
Where can Juvederm XC be used?
Juvederm can smooth unattractive creases and wrinkles on your face, and restore natural contours. It is suitable for the treatment of static wrinkles, which are easily seen when your face is at rest. It is therefore particularly effective for smile lines around the mouth, marionette lines, and vertical lip lines, and can also enhance and shape the lips.
A topical anesthetic is usually applied at the start of treatment to reduce any discomfort. A very small needle is then used to inject Juvederm, and the gel flows into the skin and immediately improves those areas. Treatment time varies from 15 to 45 minutes, but a lot depends on the areas being treated.
The results with Juvederm are instant, so most patients only require one session to achieve the desired results. Unlike other dermal fillers that last 4-6 months, Juvederm can last 6-9 months. It has the ability to produce a longer lasting benefit, because of the specific method of cross-linking hyaluronic acid molecules used to create it.
Juvederm is a temporary dermal filler; therefore follow-up visits will be needed in order to maintain the results.
