scar revision is designed to help minimize the appearance of a traumatic or surgical scar. The goal of the procedure is to make the scar blend in with the surrounding skin tissue, leaving a more even and smooth skin tone with better texture and volume. Although a scar can’t be completely eliminated, scar revision treatments can help make the scar much less noticeable.

Ideal candidates for scar revision are healthy, non-smoking individuals who are displeased by the appearance of a scar. Candidates should also not have an active breakout in an area where the scar is being treated.

The Procedure

Scar revision can be broken down into several types of treatments and procedures. The ideal procedure will be selected based on the type of scar being treated, the severity of the scar, and the age of the scar. Typical scar revision procedures can include:

  • Topical treatments designed to fade the scar
  • Injectable treatments, like dermal fillers
  • Surface treatments, like laser therapy, dermabrasions, and chemical peels
  • Surgical removal of scars

During your scar revision consultation, your Awaken Aesthetics surgeon will help you choose the right procedure for you.

The Recovery

The recovery process depends on the type of procedure that you choose. For example, topical treatments may lead to peeling and redness, but these side effects tend to disappear over time. Surface treatments will result in redness, slight swelling, and sun sensitivity; therefore, clients will need to apply sunscreen in the treated areas.
