waken Aesthetics is pleased to offer Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to address a range of skin care needs. PRP is a revolutionary non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that regenerates the skin, and also reduces the signs of facial aging. It uses the healing power of your own plasma to stimulate the growth of new cells, and restore healthier, younger skin.

What is PRP?

PRP is a concentration of platelets derived from a patient’s own blood. The technology has been around for many years and is regularly used to treat sports-related injuries. However, it is now included in aesthetic medicine because of its rejuvenating abilities, as it encourages collagen development, and stimulates the healing of tissues and cells.

PRP Therapy for the face

The physician will draw blood (usually from the arm), and then spin it in a centrifuge, where the concentrated platelets are separated from the other blood components. The PRP is then ready for use in the facial rejuvenation process.

PRP is injected into the damaged areas of the skin, and the growth factors present in the platelets soon get to work renewing the skin cells. The procedure is not painful, and numbing cream is applied at the start to ease any discomfort. There may be minimal swelling and bruising after treatment, but this normally clears within 5 days.

Ideal Areas for PRP Therapy

PRP can be used to treat nasolabial folds, wrinkles around the eyes, acne scars, and dark circles under the eyes. It is also an effective way to add volume to the cheeks.

The results

The tissue regeneration process results in smoother, tighter skin, and fewer wrinkles. The effects start to appear about 2 weeks after treatment and typically last for a year or more.
