You may have noticed that your skin starts to crease in spots when you smile or frown. These expression lines and wrinkles will deepen over time. Fortunately, Botox® and Dysport® will stop their progress and smooth your skin. These anti-aging treatments work in the same basic way but have a few differences.

What are Botox® and Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® are neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins. They use a compound called botulinum toxin that works by relaxing facial muscles. Both anti-aging treatments are FDA-approved. Botox® is approved to treat crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and forehead creases. Dysport® is approved for glabellar lines but also works in other areas. They both work by interrupting signals to the facial muscles that tell them to contract.

Botox® vs. Dysport®: What’s the Difference?

While Botox® and Dysport® are very similar in some ways, they have a few differences that can determine which one your Awaken Aesthetics injector chooses for you.

What are They Made Of?

Botox® and Dysport® use botulinum toxin with proteins that help it reach its destination. The proteins differ, and as a result, Dysport® tends to spread out more. This property makes it useful in areas where your injector wants to create a softer, more natural look.

How Quickly Do They Work?

Botox® results usually take seven to ten days to develop fully. Dysport® results typically appear within two days and will develop more quickly than Botox® for most people. While this property has no effect on how well the product works, it may matter to those eager to see results

How Long Do They Last?

The results of Botox® last three to four months for most people. They can last up to five months for those who have been getting treatment for a while. Dysport® anti-aging results may last four to seven months, depending on how your body responds.

How Much Do They Cost?

The cost for injections differs by provider. However, Botox® and Dysport® are usually similar. Both are priced in units, but one unit of Botox® is not equivalent to one unit of Dysport®. The best way to determine your expected cost is to schedule a consultation.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox® and Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® require no downtime. You can return to your daily routine after your injections, which can take as little as 15 minutes. You may notice a few spots of redness, bruising, or swelling that fade within a day or two.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox® and Dysport®?

Candidates for Botox® and Dysport® should be healthy adults with reasonable expectations. Candidates typically want to address fine lines and wrinkles at any stage of their formation. You should not get Botox® or Dysport® if you have an infection or active skin condition in the treatment area.

I saw Dr. Ann while I was in town visiting my brother and complained that the Botox I got a couple months ago in Nashville didn’t work like I wanted, so my brother took me to see his guy, Dr. Ahn, and he helped me out. I’m leaving today and it’s been about a week since I saw him and my forehead is already seeing the results. The wrinkles have softened some and I look younger in the face. It’s kinda crazy how much some intense wrinkles will change your appearance. I’ll post before after pics in a week to make sure the full affect is taking place.
