Aging around the eyes can lead to looking tired or even sad when your face is at rest. Eyelid surgery can undo signs of aging for a brighter, more alert appearance. When people notice your eyes, make sure they see how youthful and vibrant they look.

What is Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery is performed on eyelids to correct signs of aging. It is also called an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty. This procedure tightens loose eyelid skin, removes or repositions fat, and repairs loosened muscles. You may simultaneously have the procedure on your upper and lower eyelids, rejuvenating the entire eye area.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

The cost of eyelid surgery varies according to the type of procedure and other factors. An average eyelid lift costs about $4,120. This estimate does not always include expenses such as anesthesia, surgical fees, and medications. A one-on-one consultation is necessary to determine what you can expect to pay.

How Does Eyelid Surgery Work?

Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthetic with light sedation. It takes about an hour but may take longer if your upper and lower eyelids are treated. The procedure is performed by board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Eric S. Ahn.

Upper Blepharoplasty

During this procedure, Dr. Ahn uses an incision hidden in a crease of the eyelid to tighten the skin and smooth away wrinkles. Removing excess fat helps correct the appearance of drooping. An upper eyelid lift can even improve your vision if you have loose skin blocking your eyesight.

If an upper blepharoplasty alone will not address your concerns, Dr. Ahn may recommend a brow lift. This procedure raises drooping brows to correct a “hooded” appearance and make the eyes look more alert and youthful.

Lower Blepharoplasty

This procedure usually uses an incision inside the eyelid for scar-free results but may also use a well-hidden incision under the eyelashes. Dr. Ahn will reposition fat and remove any excess to restore a soft, smooth undereye appearance. Loose skin and muscles are tightened to lift drooping lower lids and restore the natural shape of your eyes.

What is Recovery Like After Eyelid Surgery?

Most people have very little discomfort after the procedure. You will have little to no bruising, but you will experience swelling around the eyes. This swelling starts to resolve within five to seven days. You can usually resume normal activities after about a week, and most people can return to work by then. Your swelling may take a few months to resolve completely.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Most people with concerns about their eye area are good candidates for eyelid surgery. Ideal candidates are healthy and have reasonable expectations about their results. You may not be a good candidate if you have an eye infection or certain medical conditions.

Dr. Ahn was pretty awesome. He was really nice and super patient with all my silly questions and comments during the procedure. Highly recommend!!!
