8 Neck Lift Recovery Tips You Need to Know

1. Follow your plastic surgeon’s pre-surgery plan.

Before you even engage in your neck lift recovery process, your plastic surgeon will provide you with a post-op recovery plan about one week before your surgery. This plan will include tips to have a successful recovery, as well as a schedule of follow-up appointments you should attend after your procedure.

2. Enlist help during your first few days after surgery.

Thanks to the aftereffects of general anesthesia, you’ll be pretty groggy after your neck lift surgery. Have a trusted friend or family member drive you home after your procedure. If you live alone, schedule people to come in and check on you to make sure you’re okay during the first 48 hours of recovery.

3. Prep meals and entertainment for your recovery.

It’s worth preparing a few days’ worth of meals and entertainment, as you’ll be limited to your couch or bed during the […]

How Does Fat Grafting Work?

Have you heard of fat grafting, the popular new treatment that’s taking the cosmetic world by storm?

Fat grafting – also commonly referred to as a fat transfer – is a procedure that uses your body’s own fat to add volume in areas where aging and volume loss are most obvious. From your face to your buttocks, fat grafting can plump, smooth, and even peel back the years from your appearance.

But how does fat grafting even work? View More Patient Results

Everything You’ve Wanted to Know About Fat Grafting

1. It provides minor body contouring benefits.

Fat grafting utilizes minor liposuction surgery in order to harvest enough fat for the injection process. The most common grafting sites include the stomach, thighs, and/or the buttocks (if the procedure isn’t a Brazilian butt lift).

Patients often remark that they see some inch loss as a result of the fat-harvesting process, which is always a nice bonus!

2. It can be used in common aging areas.

Fat grafting is a surprisingly flexible procedure that can be used in a number of body areas. Most patients tend to have their fat placed in areas where aging is most obvious, like […]

How Painful is Liposuction?

Liposuction isn’t particularly painful, as you’ll most likely be under general anesthesia for the procedure. However, you may feel a considerable amount of discomfort after you wake up from your surgery. This pain usually subsides after about two to three days, but you may need prescription pain medication from your plastic surgeon to feel more comfortable.

How Long Does It Take to Recover from Liposuction?

While every patient is different, most patients can expect to return to work after about one week of recovery. Full recovery from liposuction surgery takes about three to four weeks; at this milestone, patients are usually cleared to return to their normal activities.

What to Expect From Facelift Recovery

During the first few days of facelift recovery, you’ll notice considerable bruising, swelling, and pain. We highly recommend that patients take this time off from work, as these side effects – combined with general anesthesia after-effects – make it so that patients need to get as much rest as possible.

After the first week, you’ll start to feel yourself again. At this time, some patients are able to return back to work. Additionally, patients are usually able to wear makeup around Day 10, which can be extremely useful for covering any residual signs of bruising.

Get a Six-Pack with Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction surgery can help you get six-pack abs because there are specific methods that actually sculpt the six-pack shape in the remaining fat tissue left behind.

While you’ll still get all the body-contouring benefits traditionally associated with liposuction surgery, a procedure that’s focused on delivering a six-pack leaves behind a small amount of fat over the abdomen, which allows the plastic surgeon to sculpt out the shape. The results are visible through the dermis almost immediately, with final results appearing about six weeks after surgery (once swelling and […]

Botox and Dermal Fillers for Wrinkles

Unsurprisingly, Botox and dermal fillers remain two of the best non-surgical treatment options for wrinkles and fine lines. While they both attack wrinkles in different ways, the end results are the same: wrinkles are smoothed away, leaving behind younger and more radiant-looking skin.

Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid gel to gently lift the dermal tissue, thus acting as scaffolding in areas where volume loss has pronounced the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox, however, uses a special protein that interrupts the brain’s signals to a muscle’s nerve endings at […]

What to Expect from Facelift Scarring

The answer is yes, you should expect scarring from your facelift procedure – but they’re not as visible as you might think.

In fact, most facelift scarring is placed behind the ears and within the scalp’s hairline, thus ensuring that patients won’t have to worry about their scars being visible to the naked eye.

The reason why these incisions are placed behind the ears and within the hairline is because they allow your plastic surgeon to access key facial muscles that cause obvious drooping. During the facelift procedure, your plastic surgeon will adjust these facial muscles by repositioning them into a more youthful position, followed by trimming off any excess skin that may remain.

What is Micro-Botox?

If you think that Botox injections are just for facial wrinkles and lines, it’s time to rediscover the anti-aging powers of this injection; more specifically, it’s time to discover Micro-Botox!

This innovative anti-aging treatment is brand-new to the States, yet it already promises to be an extremely popular choice with clients who want superior skin rejuvenation without the “frozen” look.

Let’s take a closer look at Micro-Botox and what you can expect from your treatment.

What is Micro-Botox?

Micro-Botox refers to a treatment that combines the anti-aging powers of Botox with skin-hydrating serums. These elements are mixed together to create a concoction that’s then injected into the surface areas of the skin. This is different from traditional Botox treatments, which are injected directly into the facial muscle in order to paralyze it. As Micro-Botox only penetrates the top dermis layer, this means patients won’t have to be scared of that tell-tale frozen look that often accompanies improperly injected Botox.

How Long is the Recovery Process for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Summertime is wrapping up – and if you hate constantly shaving your legs, bikini line, and other areas, you may be breathing a big sigh of relief. The cooler weather means you don’t have to think about achieving a younger, fresher-looking complexion until next summer…

Right?

Actually, fall is the perfect time to undergo laser skin resurfacing – and once we explain the recovery process for this popular treatment, you’ll see why!

The Recovery Process for Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing doesn’t require the kind of recovery where you need to take time off of work or spend your weekend on the couch. However, there is something important you need to keep in mind about laser skin resurfacing – it can make your skin pretty sensitive to the sun’s UV rays.

That’s why fall is the best time for laser skin resurfacing, precisely because you’re more likely to cover up your skin from harmful UV rays. Instead of constantly slathering on sunscreen and potentially exposing your skin, you can stay indoors to keep your recovering skin safe.

Scheduling Your Laser Skin Resurfacing

One of the biggest reasons why you’ll want to schedule your laser skin resurfacing in the fall is because the […]

How Long is Recovery From Liposuction?

Have you been interested in learning more about liposuction, but nervous about what recovery entails?

You’re not alone. Liposuction has earned a slightly negative reputation over recent years, thanks to the manual processes involved in breaking up and removing fat. Traditionally, liposuction recovery would take several weeks, in which post-op patients would have to contend with hefty amounts of swelling and bruising. View Gallery

But liposuction has changed over recent years – and now, thanks to SmartLipo, liposuction recovery is surprisingly fast.

How Does SmartLipo Work?

Before we dive into how long it takes to recover from SmartLipo, it’s important to understand just why this liposuction method has sped up recovery time.

SmartLipo (also known as laser liposuction) uses laser heat energy to liquefy fat cells in the targeted treatment area. The heat is delivered via the cannula, which is fed to the treatment area through a tiny incision. Once the fat is liquefied, it’s drained via the cannula, resulting in less catastrophic fat removal. The entire procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, thus reducing any risks normally associated with general anesthesia. View Gallery

What is the Difference Between Botox and Fillers?

You’ve heard about Botox. You’ve heard about fillers. You know that both types of injections can help you look younger. Trouble is, you haven’t heard too much about the differences between the two types of anti-aging injections. That’s a problem, especially if you aren’t exactly sure what treatment you should opt for.

So what’s the difference between Botox and fillers? And how do you know which anti-aging treatment is right for you? View Our Cases

First, let’s begin by exploring the main difference between the two anti-aging treatments: their active ingredients. On the one hand, Botox contains botulinum toxin type A, a type of safe neurotoxin that’s used to block the brain’s nerve signals, which tricks facial muscles into relaxing. As a result, the skin’s surface becomes smoother, which helps erase fine lines and forehead furrows.

On the other hand, dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, usually contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural compound that’s renowned for retaining up to 10x its own weight in water molecules. HA helps plump out key facial areas that have lost significant volume as a result of the aging process. Not all dermal fillers are the same; some contain a […]

What Signs of Aging Do Botox Injections Target?

Interested in learning more about anti-aging injections – but not sure which one is right for you?

It’s no wonder: Lately, it seems as though there are more anti-aging injections available than ever before. From dermal fillers to Botox, there’s a treatment for almost every type of aging symptom out there. The only problem is, how do you know which injection treats your specific aging symptoms?

More specifically, what signs of aging do Botox injections target? VIEW OUR GALLERY

Botox is an FDA-approved anti-aging treatment that uses its active ingredient – botulinum toxin type A – to smooth away the appearance of forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and frown lines. The botulinum toxin (sounds scary, but it’s perfectly safe!) blocks the nerve signals that are sent by the brain to the corresponding muscles. By blocking the nerve signals, the muscles are tricked into remaining relatively motionless.

As a result, the skin above the muscle area becomes much more relaxed, which helps alleviate the appearance of deep lines caused by brow furrowing, squinting, and more.

Botox is perhaps one of the most popular anti-aging injections, and for good reason: it has an almost-immediate effect on […]

Will My Botox Results Look Natural?

By now, you probably know that Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging injectables on the market today. It’s no wonder – even when it was first introduced in the late 90s, Botox’s ability to smooth away the appearance of deep furrow lines on the forehead and around the eyes took the world by storm.

But with its rising popularity came another observation: When improperly used, Botox could lead to an unnatural, “frozen” appearance. From reality television to celebrity gossip magazines, it became all-too-easy to spot who went a bit too overboard with Botox injections. VIEW OUR GALLERY

Perhaps that’s why so many people are a bit nervous about their first Botox treatment. They want to harness the injectable’s ability to take years off of their appearance, but they don’t want to look “obvious” about it. Perhaps that’s why the most popular question about Botox tends to be: “Will my Botox results look natural?”

The answer largely depends on the person who is delivering the injection. Quite frankly, an inexperienced injectionist may end up injecting too much Botox, which means you may end up looking unnaturally frozen. That’s why it’s always recommended […]

How Much Does a Mini-Facelift Cost?

Want to look years younger without going through the constant upkeep that comes with anti-aging injectables?

For many people, a mini-facelift is the best way to take care of common aging symptoms – like wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity – with results that last for several years. A mini-facelift is an excellent choice for patients who may see signs of aging primarily on the lower third part of the face, like the jawline and neck. These signs of aging may include:

  • The appearance of jowls
  • Wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth
  • Loose skin around the neck
  • Neck wrinkles

VIEW PATIENT RESULTS

The mini-facelift can help tighten loose skin, thus minimizing the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and even sagging. Best of all, the mini-facelift can be combined with other youth-enhancing treatments, like facial fat grafting or dermal fillers for facial volume. Results can last for up to five years or more, making it a great long-term solution for patients with busy schedules.

While many people are interested in the benefits of a mini-facelift, they […]

How Long is Recovery Time From an Eyelift?

Are you interested in undergoing an eyelift surgery, but not sure you have the time to devote to recovery?

It’s an understandable concern. After all, some plastic surgery procedures often require a lot of recovery time – and if you have a busy lifestyle, you can’t exactly afford to take weeks off. Between your job, your family, and everything else in between, it’s no exaggeration to say that you don’t have the luxury of free time to devote to recovery.

So with that in mind, how long is recovery time from an eyelift?

Surprisingly, an eyelift (also referred to as a blepharoplasty) doesn’t require a significant amount of recovery time. Actually, you might be pleasantly shocked to learn that you can return to work in as little as 2 to 3 days, depending on your job. Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from the eyelift recovery process:

  • If you have a non-manual job, you can usually go back to work after a few days of rest. If you have a job that requires manual work, you’ll need to get sign-off from your plastic surgeon before going […]

What Skin Conditions Can Be Addressed With a HydraFacial?

Let’s face it – you want picture-perfect skin. The kind of skin that makes you look like you’re glowing in every selfie, even if you’re not wearing any makeup. That’s why you’re so diligent about applying moisturizers, facial oils, and a host of other creams designed to help you become more radiant.

But the problem is, those topical creams can only go so far. If you’re currently suffering from uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and clogged pores, you need something that’s going to work a little harder for you.

You need HydraFacial!

Where Is the Incision Made During a Facelift?

Are you thinking about undergoing a facelift?

Maybe you’ve tried anti-aging injections, but think you might need something a bit more drastic to minimize your wrinkles. Perhaps you have sagging skin around your cheeks and jawline, and it can only be addressed with a facelift procedure.

Regardless of why you want to undergo a facelift, you might have a question that plenty of other patients have had during their initial consultation: “Where is the incision made during a facelift?” View More Cases

There’s a good reason for this question. Many prospective patients are worried that the incision will leave a noticeable scar. After all, you want people to notice your smooth, firm, and younger-looking facial skin – not a telltale surgical scar!

We have good news here: Facelift incisions are typically made behind the ear and/or just along the hairline, meaning it’s incredibly easy to hide the surgical scars. In fact, the scars are so tough to notice that you’d have to purposefully look for the scar; it’s not noticeable in most social interactions.

The reason for this incision placement is simple: It provides the most access to sagging facial muscles and skin while […]

Which Filler is Best for Lip Augmentation?

Kissably full lips might seem like a new trend this year, but let’s face it – they were never out of style. From Angelina Jolie to Kylie Jenner, it seems as though there are multiple celebrities who have the kind of lips that society loves.

But if your lips are a bit on the thinner side, fear not – lip augmentation can help you achieve the fuller lips you’ve always wanted!

Lip augmentation is a non-surgical procedure that uses a dermal filler to add temporary fullness and volume to the lips. This treatment can also help smooth away the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the mouth (also known as smoker’s lines). Results are almost immediate and can last anywhere from six to twelve months, depending on the dermal filler you use.

But that leaves an important question – Which dermal filler is best for lip augmentation?

There are two standout dermal fillers that can help you achieve better fullness and lip volume: Juvederm Volbella, Vollure, and Restylane Silk. Let’s take a look at each dermal filler now to see which one might be best for your lip augmentation procedure:

What Does Scar Revision Recovery Entail?

Scars can tell the story of who you are – but sometimes, scars can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Whether you suffer from an injury scar or acne scars, you want to find the kind of treatment that can help you get clear and beautiful skin.
Scar revision procedures can help you reveal your best complexion, even if you have deep-pitted or old trauma scars. These procedures can range from surgical removal – where the surface of the scar is removed from the skin – to laser skin resurfacing. With regards to the latter treatment, laser skin resurfacing is used to smooth away the skin’s surface, thus fading the scar’s appearance. Over time and with a few treatments, clients will notice a brilliant, clearer complexion.
No matter which scar recovery procedure you choose, it’s important to note that there will be some recovery involved. Patients who opt to have the scar manually removed will need to keep the treated area covered for a few days; during this time, they may want to take a few days off of work to rest. Patients should expect significant swelling and redness at the treatment site […]

What’s the Difference Between a Face Lift and a Neck Lift?

For people with moderate to severe signs of aging, facial creams and serums just aren’t enough to counteract loose skin, wrinkles, and volume loss. That’s why surgical treatments – like a neck lift and a face lift – are more effective for significant aging symptoms. These procedures tackle signs of aging at a deep structural level, leading to highly visible results that can last for longer than 10 years.

But what exactly is the difference between a face lift and a neck lift? And how do you know which one is right for you?

All About the Face Lift

The facelift is a surgical procedure that’s ideal for patients who have significant facial sagging. During the facelift procedure, your plastic surgeon will make incisions behind the ears and around the hairline to access facial muscles. These muscles are pulled taut, and excess skin is trimmed away to help highlight these new contours.

You’re likely a good candidate for a face lift if you have significant facial sagging, as well as deep lines and wrinkles. To see how you’d appear after a facelift, place your […]

Am I a Candidate for Double Eyelid Surgery?

For many women and men of Asian heritage, double eyelid surgery can help achieve a desirable aesthetic, where the eye looks much more awake and brighter. Double eyelid surgery is a procedure that adds a crease to the upper eyelid, thus breaking up a heavy eyelid without sacrificing the beautiful Asian eye aesthetic.

At Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA, board-certified surgeon Dr. Eric Ahn specializes in surgeries for patients who wish to achieve a specific aesthetic while still preserving their Asian appearance. He can help you determine if you’re an ideal candidate for a double eyelid surgery, as well as walk you through what you can expect from the procedure.

Want to know if you’re a candidate for double eyelid surgery? You may be a good fit for this surgery if:

  • You’re a healthy non-smoker over the age of 18

Am I a Candidate For Facial and V Line Reshaping?

Facial and V-Line is a type of surgical procedure designed to help people of Asian heritage achieve a longer but softer facial profile. For many of these people, facial and V-Line reshaping can highlight new contours and achieve a more structured jawline, all while still maintaining their ethnic curvature.

This surgical procedure accomplishes the above goal by using a small fragment of jaw bone; this allows the cosmetic surgeon to reposition the remaining jawline into a more elongated profile. Excess jawbone may be trimmed to help highlight the patient’s new facial profile. Most patients experience significant swelling and bruising for the first few weeks after the procedure. Once these side effects subside, results are visible within the first few months.

Are you wondering if you’re a candidate for facial and V line reshaping? Take a look at the criteria below:

  • You’re over the age of 21
  • You’re a non-smoker
  • You have an oval facial shape
  • You want a more prominent, elongated jawline.
  • You have realistic expectations for the surgery

If you’re interested in the Facial and V Line Reshaping procedure, schedule a consultation at Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA to learn if you […]

How Many Kybella Treatments Are Needed to See Results?

If you’re following a healthy lifestyle – we’re talking clean eating and working out – it’s probably incredibly frustrating to still be plagued by facial fat. While the face needs fat (it helps preserve a more youthful appearance), aging and the downward pull of gravity can often cause those fat pads to drift down towards the jawline. That means many people might develop excessive under chin fat, even if they’re following healthy habits.

Fortunately, there are plenty of treatments out there that can help treat stubborn fat located underneath the chin – and one of the most powerful is Kybella.

Released in 2015, Kybella is already promising to be a game changer for patients who want a more contoured and visible jawline. The secret behind the FDA-approved injections success is the use of deoxycholic acid as the main ingredient. Once injected into submental (under chin) tissue, this naturally occurring acid eats away at fat cells while preserving surrounding healthy tissue. Over time, these fat cells are flushed out, leaving behind a contoured appearance that highlights your jawline.

Many patients are curious as to how many Kybella treatments they need to see results. There’s good news there as well: most people only […]

When Will I See Results From a PRP Facial?

By now, you probably know that a PRP Facial is one of the best ways to rejuvenate and tone the skin – all by simply using your body’s own platelets. If you haven’t heard of the PRP Facial, then you’re in for a treat!

Here’s a quick recap: the PRP Facial combines the power of a micro-needling treatment with platelets to activate your skin’s growth factors. Micro-needling creates small wounds within the skin, which triggers the body’s healing processes (in other words, it kick-starts collagen production). After these microscopic channels are created, your platelets are added to a growth factor serum and injected back into the skin.

*Individual Results May Vary

About PRP Facial

With just a single treatment, clients can expect to see rejuvenated skin, with a noticeable improvement of the following signs of aging:

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Signs of fatigue
  • Undereye bags
  • Loose skin
  • And more

PRP Facial Results

With so many great results from this procedure, it’s no wonder more patients ask: “When will I see results from a PRP Facial?”

If you’re looking for a quick fix for signs of aging, the PRP Facial might be your best option. Most patients see […]

Who Is a Good Candidate for PRP Therapy Hair Restoration?

PRP therapy (also known as platelet-rich plasma therapy) has shown promise for skin rejuvenation – and now it looks like fading hairlines are next. Clinical studies have shown that PRP therapy can help restore hair, making it an excellent option for both men and women who are looking for a non-surgical hair restoration solution.

PRP for hair loss Torrance

So how exactly does it work? PRP hair therapy can be broken down into two main steps:

  • Step 1: A small amount of blood (no more than two or three teaspoons) is removed from the patient’s arm. This blood is placed into a centrifuge device and cleaned, which separates the platelets from the rest of the blood. These platelets are added to a special serum that activates its growth factors.
  • Step 2: The platelets are injected into various areas of the scalp, including around the natural hairline and where any thinning hair might be visible.

Once the platelets have been applied to the scalp, most patients begin to see hair regrowth within a few months. The hair that grows back is completely yours – that means you can pull it, shower with it, or even swim with it. It won’t fall […]

How Can I Effectively Treat My Undereye Bags?

If you have undereye bags, it may feel like there’s nothing you can do to make yourself look refreshed and rejuvenated. Serums, creams, and even getting a full night’s sleep can do little against the bags that might make you look older than you actually are. Is there anything that will help you get rid of your undereye bags for good?

As it turns out, there are a lot of treatments that can accomplish this goal – and they’re all available at Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA!

Whether you’re looking for a non-invasive treatment or a surgical procedure, here’s how Awaken Aesthetics can effectively treat your undereye bags:

  • Lower Blepharoplasty: This surgical procedure is an excellent approach to getting rid of moderate to severe undereye bags. The lower blepharoplasty procedure is performed by making small incisions along the lower eyelid. Once the incisions have been created, the plastic surgeon removes fat pads and rearranges muscles to create a smoother look. The surgery also removes excess skin that might exacerbate the appearance of undereye bags.
  • Facial Fat Grafting: Undereye bags can look worse if other facial areas are losing key volume. Facial fat […]

What are My Treatment Options for Bumps of the Face and Neck?

Do you have bumps on your face and neck – but they’re not acne?

As it turns out, a lot of people suffer from different variations of these bumps. The most common of these are small, hard bumps are known as “milia” – and they’re often mistaken for whiteheads. Instead, they’re tiny protein-filled cysts that form when dead skin cells get trapped underneath new skin.

Other skin bumps include keratosis pilaris, which occurs when keratin builds up in pores and eventually clogs hair follicles. These hard bumps are usually red in appearance, which is why many people refer to them as “chicken skin.”

No matter what kinds of bumps are plaguing your skin, there are multiple treatments out there that can help you get the smooth, picture-perfect skin you’re looking for. At Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA, we offer the following treatments for bumps on the face and neck:

  • Creams: Some bumps respond well to cream medications, especially ones that contain retinol. Prescription-strength retinol can slough away dead skin, which is key to eliminating the bumps trapped underneath.
  • Injectable Medications: Cortizone injections are excellent solutions for cyst-like bumps, especially those that don’t seem to respond […]

What are the Benefits of SmartLipo vs. Liposuction?

If you’ve shied away from the idea of undergoing liposuction surgery – even if you’d love to get rid of those stubborn bits of body fat – you’re not alone. There are plenty of people who dislike the idea of getting liposuction for a number of reasons. For example, some people find the excessive bruising to be intimidating, while others may worry about loose skin once the fat tissue has been removed.

No matter what your reasons for avoiding traditional liposuction, there’s a new option out there that can help you get rid of excessive fat without invasive surgery: SmartLipo!

SmartLipo is an FDA-approved, minimally invasive surgical procedure that approaches liposuction from a different angle: instead of manually destroying fat tissue, SmartLipo uses laser heat energy to liquefy fat. This type of procedure has the following benefits:

  • It can be performed under local anesthesia
  • It minimizes the amount of bruising and swelling post-recovery
  • It speeds up the recovery process, meaning you can return to your normal routine faster

In addition to the above benefits, SmartLipo helps tighten skin in the treatment area. Here’s […]

Which Filler Should I Choose?

Looking for a quick and effective way to erase years off your appearance? Then it’s time to take advantage of fillers – one of the most popular techniques for improving facial wrinkles while adding youthful facial contours.

Fillers have been a staple in plastic surgery practices for many years. As a result of their popularity, several brands have created their own versions of fillers, each with different formulas and functions designed to provide a more youthful appearance.  But with all that choice comes questions, like:

“Which Dermal Filler Should I Choose?”

Let’s take a quick look at a few popular fillers to see which one is the right option for you:

  • Restylane: This filler contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound that promotes collagen production while increasing the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Restylane is an excellent injectable for treating deep folds, wrinkles, and volume loss, particularly those around the nose and mouth. Results can last for up to 12 months.
  • Voluma: This filler (made by Juvederm) is similar to Restylane in that it contains hyaluronic acid. However, the injectable gel is thicker than other dermal fillers, as it’s designed to add volume to cheeks that appear hollow or sunken-in. Voluma can also minimize the […]

How Can I Tighten the Skin Around My Face & Décolletage – Without Surgery?

When it comes to revealing symptoms of aging, many of us pinpoint our faces as the main culprit. It’s no surprise; after all, there’s an entire beauty industry dedicated to minimizing the look of sagging facial skin. But as it turns out, it might not just be facial skin that is giving your age away – it could be your décolletage as well.

The chest region has surprisingly thin skin, making it particularly vulnerable to wrinkles, fine lines, and creases. Additionally, constant motions, sleeping positions, and lack of sunscreen protection can all add up to pretty significant sagging. To make matters worse, many of our skincare habits skip giving the décolletage some much-needed TLC.

All of these factors can add up to facial and décolletage skin that’s in serious need of skin tightening.

At Awaken Aesthetics, we use Ultherapy ultrasound therapy to tighten and tone skin that’s starting to sag. This FDA-approved device delivers focused ultrasound energy to varying depths of the skin, which eventually tightens and tones the skin through direct remodeling of tissues and generation of collagen.

Most patients need about one to three Ultherapy treatments in order to obtain the best results possible. One procedure usually costs between $2,000-$3,500, […]

Do I Need an Eyebrow Lift or an Eyelid Lift

Are you getting enough sleep, but still feel as though you look tired and fatigued? Are you frustrated by the appearance of sagging skin around your eyes, and want a solution that’s going to help you look more refreshed and rejuvenated?

Then you might be an excellent candidate for an Eyebrow and/or an Eyelid Lift. Both procedures are aimed at correcting sagging skin that comes with the aging process. Both procedures have helped patients look more well-rested and refreshed, as well as turned back the clock on their appearance.

But when it comes down to it, which procedure is right for you – an Eyelid and/or an Eyebrow Lift?

Let’s take a look at the differences between the two procedures, as well as how to tell which one you might be a candidate for:

Eyebrow Lift: An Eyebrow Lift is a surgical procedure that’s meant to subtly lift drooping eyebrows. Many patients notice eyebrow drooping once it becomes difficult to apply eyeshadow, as eyelid skin disappears behind the sagging skin. An Eyebrow Lift gently pulls sagging eyebrow naturally taut, which helps correct sagging around the eyes while addressing unconscious forehead use and therefore forehead wrinkles. The goal is to restore the normal position of the eyebrow, not overly […]

Planning Your Recovery: When Should You Get a Facelift Before an Event?

Is there a big event coming up that you want to look absolutely stunning at?

Whether it’s a wedding or a high school reunion, there’s no denying that we all want to look fresh-faced and youthful at a major life event. That’s why so many people look into getting a facelift in order to prepare for this event. If you’re considering doing the same, you might be trying to plan out your recovery so you’re at your very best appearance before the event.

So when it comes down to it, when should you get a facelift before an event?

Here’s how the timeline of your facelift recovery will work:

  • The facelift procedure itself will take about 3 to 5 hours to perform. During this time, your plastic surgeon will make small incisions within the hairline and behind the ears to access key facial muscles. These muscles are pulled taut to address sagging; excess skin is trimmed to show off new results.
  • You’ll need to take about a week off of work; some patients may opt to take two weeks off of work to give bruising and swelling a chance to subside. You can usually wear makeup after the second week.
  • For the first six weeks after the procedure, you’ll […]

Vampire Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift: Which Is Better?

If you’ve been struggling to treat the appearance of jowls, facial wrinkles, and sagging skin with over-the-counter beauty products, you’re in luck: there are more cosmetic treatments than ever dedicated to giving a youthful appearance back to your face.  At Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA, we’re proud to offer two innovative treatments designed to tackle facial aging:

Both treatments can lead to excellent results, with highly satisfied patients who can’t wait to show off their invigorated new appearance.  However, these treatments are designed to tackle different components of facial aging.  So when it comes down to it, which is better: a Vampire Facelift, or a traditional Facelift?

A Vampire Facelift is an innovative non-surgical procedure that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to revitalize tired, aging skin.  During the first part of this procedure, a few teaspoons of blood are drawn from the upper arm and placed in a centrifuge for platelet removal.  The second part involves using a micro-needling device to inject the platelets into the facial region.  Growth factors in the platelets increase cellular turnover, which helps address:

Do I Need an Upper Blepharoplasty or a Lower Blepharoplasty?

If the eyes are the window to the soul, then they might be telling the world that you need a bit more sleep.  Sagging eyelids, undereye bags, and dark circles can make it look like you’re not getting enough rest, even if you regularly log in eight hours of sleep per night (if so, what’s your secret?).  That’s because the aging process breaks down fat pads around the eyes, creating sagging eyelids and undereye bags.  The eyelid skin is also really thin, making it that much more vulnerable to persistent wrinkles and fine lines.

A blepharoplasty procedure is a surgery designed to address sagging eyelids, undereye bags, fat pads, and significant wrinkles around the eyes.  This surgery is usually broken up into two procedures:

  1. An upper blepharoplasty; and
  2. A lower blepharoplasty.

The upper blepharoplasty procedure is designed to treat sagging and wrinkles around the upper eyelid, while the lower blepharoplasty focuses on the undereye area. Which blepharoplasty procedure is right for you?

Here’s how to tell if you need an upper blepharoplasty procedure:

  • You have sagging upper eyelids
  • Your eyelids are […]

What Is an Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

An ethnic rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that’s designed to enhance and improve the cosmetic appearance of the nose without erasing or minimizing a person’s ethnic identity.  For many patients, the nose is a signifier of their heritage and identity; that’s why an ethnic rhinoplasty procedure is designed to respect those characteristics while achieving a patient’s desired results.

he ethnic rhinoplasty procedure requires a highly experienced and diligent plastic surgeon, as there are many challenges that come hand-in-hand with this surgery.  For example, Caucasian rhinoplasty procedures typically focus on lowering the dorsum, decreasing the tip bulbousness, and narrowing the base.  These actions result in a nose that looks more narrow and elegant.  However, an ethnic rhinoplasty surgery may require different procedures to achieve the same elegant result.

What’s more, different heritages may have their own unique characteristics that need to be taken into consideration when performing an ethnic rhinoplasty procedure.  For example, people with Asian and Hispanic heritage often have thicker skin than Caucasians, while Asians often have smaller nasal bones than other ethnic groups.

How Long Is Recovery From Otoplasty?

Otoplasty – also known as ear surgery – can be an essential cosmetic procedure for individuals who may be self-conscious about the appearance of their ears.  Otoplasty can correct several aesthetic issues associated with the ears, including the following:

  • Protruding ears
  • Oversized ears
  • Cauliflower ears
  • Deformed ears

Otoplasty could be a good solution for a patient who is self-conscious about his or her ears for a number of reasons.  The goal of otoplasty is to reshape the ears so that they are more symmetrical and in proportion to the rest of the face.  Patients report feeling much more satisfied and confident in their appearance after otoplasty.

The procedure itself can be straightforward, depending on the ear issue it’s addressing.  However, many potential patients are curious about how long it takes to recover from otoplasty, especially now that summer is in full swing.  For example, younger patients may want to know if they’ll be ready for the school season if they undergo otoplasty right now.

So how long does it take to recover from otoplasty?

The answer might surprise you, as most people are able to return to work or school after a week of recovery.  The entire recovery process can be broken down into the following phases:

  • First week: The […]

Laser Lipo vs. Traditional Lipo: What’s the Difference?

When it comes to looking your absolute best, you know that a healthy diet and regular exercise can make a huge difference. Yet if certain parts of your body aren’t responding to all of your hard work, you may need to call in some extra help to get the contoured results you’re looking for.

If you’ve been considering a liposuction procedure, you may be confused by all the options out there. From laser liposuction to traditional lipo, multiple procedures are all competing for your attention.

But which one is the right option for you?

Laser Lipo vs. Traditional Lipo

Just a decade ago, people who wanted to achieve a more contoured appearance had to settle for traditional liposuction – and some still do today. This surgical procedure uses a cannula to essentially “bash” away chunks of fat, which can cause significant bruising and swelling in the treatment area (not to mention unattractive surgical scars). Additionally, traditional liposuction can require a lengthy recovery process of four to eight weeks.

On top of these drawbacks, traditional liposuction can’t address a major aesthetic concern that’s left behind from fat removal: saggy skin. Liposuction is usually followed by a separate skin removal procedure, which can be even more costly and arduous than liposuction […]

What Is the Difference Between Juvederm and Restylane?

When it comes to choosing the right filler for your anti-aging needs, it may seem as though there is a world of options out there.  You’re definitely not wrong – major pharmaceutical companies are continually committed to developing and releasing new fillers designed to minimize the appearance of stubborn wrinkles. As a result, two major fillers have emerged as leaders in the anti-aging injectables field: Juvederm and Restylane.

The only question is, what are the differences between Juvederm and Restylane?

At first glance, there aren’t that many differences between the two.  Both Juvederm and Restylane are dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring compound that increases the skin’s moisture retention and kick-starts collagen production.  Over time and with regular treatments, both dermal fillers can improve the look and feel of skin with the following benefits:

  • Smoother skin
  • Better moisture retention
  • Minimization of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Minimization of deep nasolabial folds

One of the main differences between the two dermal fillers is in the thickness of the hyaluronic acid gels.  When the product is injected into the treatment area, the gel acts as scaffolding to add instant volume.  Restylane has a slightly thicker consistency than Juvederm; however, both dermal fillers have been shown to be […]

What Are the Benefits of the Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment?

Looking for beautiful, magazine-worthy skin?  Want the kind of complexion that will make you walk out of your home without make up – and feel great about it?

Then it’s time to introduce yourself to fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing!

What Does It Treat?

If you haven’t already heard about this cosmetic treatment, you’re in luck: fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is one of the fastest and most effective ways of rejuvenating your facial skin.  Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is an excellent choice for people who suffer from the following complexion issues:

  • Uneven skin tone
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne and trauma scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Sun damage
  • And more!

How Does It Work?

Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is an innovative procedure that uses laser energy to create tiny columns within the treatment area.  These columns trigger the body’s healing processes, which helps to encourage cellular turnover for younger, healthier-looking skin.  Additionally, the fractional columns leave healthy tissue untouched, so you’ll walk out of the procedure room with less redness and swelling.  However, patients should expect some redness, swelling, and burning after treatment.  These side effects can be managed with pain medications and topical creams.

What Are the Benefits?

The benefits of fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing are pretty impressive.  Since this treatment preserves healthy […]

How Does Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy Treat Hair Loss?

Have you heard about platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy yet?  If so, you’ve probably heard about it in reference to a facial treatment that’s designed to increase cellular turnover, improve the appearance of skin, and even help take years off of your appearance.

But PRP therapy isn’t just for the face anymore; in fact, one of the most exciting treatments today is PRP hair restoration!

Before we dive into how it helps improve the appearance of the hairline, let’s first explore what PRP therapy is. PRP therapy uses the power of your blood’s own growth factors to trigger wound healing processes within the body.  Here’s how it works: Dr. Ahn removes a small amount of blood from the upper arm (much like when you get your blood drawn).  Your blood is placed in a centrifuge, which quickly cleanses and separates growth factors from the blood.  These growth factors are mixed with a special solution that triggers the wound-healing processes vital for rejuvenation.

PRP therapy for hair loss uses these growth factors to rejuvenate hair growth in key areas around the scalp.  Once the solution has been prepared, Dr. Ahn will carefully inject the growth factors into areas where you’re missing hair, such as around the scalp line […]

What’s the Difference Between Facial Implants and Fat Grafting?

When it comes to looking as naturally youthful as possible, you might focus on eliminating the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  But believe it or not, there’s another component to looking soFacial Fat Grafting Torrance naturally young, you’ll leave your friends and family members guessing…

Facial volume!

Look back at a picture of yourself from high school or in your early twenties. Notice how the apples of your cheeks look rounded?  That’s because your facial fat – a key signifier of youth – was in its prime.  However, as we age, facial fat begins to break down, resulting in a loss of essential volume.  What’s more, this fat tends to migrate south, which can directly contribute to the appearance of jowls.

That’s why it’s recommended that patients who want to look naturally young should invest in facial volume enhancements.  At the moment, there are a two ways to augment the face – facial implants and fat grafting.  Let’s explore the differences between the two now:

  • Facial Implants: These silicone-based implants are placed along the cheeks and chin to help augment your face’s shape.  Facial implants are an excellent solution for people who may be unhappy with the […]

Am I a Good Candidate For a Neck Lift?

A neck lift, although often combined with a facelift or rhytidectomy, can sometimes be performed alone in appropriate patient. A neck lift is an excellent solution for women and men who may be frustrated at sagging or excessive wrinkling along the neck.  The best candidates also may be concerned that their aging neck no longer matches their youthful-looking faces.

It’s no surprise that many people undergo a neck lift when they’re still pleased with their facial appearance.  The neck experiences a lot more of the repetitive movements that can lead to wrinkles and stubborn lines.  One popular example of this in action is the recent phenomenon of “text neck.”  As many of us tend to spend a great deal of time on our phones, we’re constantly craning our necks to look at our smartphones.  As a result of this repetitive action, many people are starting to see new wrinkles and lines pop up.

If you’re otherwise happy with your facial appearance (i.e. not ready for a facelift), a neck lift may be the best treatment if your concern is mainly with sagging skin underneath your chin and neck.

What are some other signs that you’re a good candidate for a neck lift?  Take a look:

  • You’re […]

Do I Need a Full Facelift or a Mini-Facelift?

If you’re tired of using anti-aging products to no avail, or you’re frustrated by the slow march of skin toward your jawline, it might be time to consider undergoing a facelift procedure.  Yet making the decision to undergo this procedure might be the easy part – choosing which particular facelift type could prove to be more challenging.

Not all facelift procedures are created equal.  While there are different surgical methods for performing a facelift, there are generally two types of facelift procedures available: a full facelift and a mini-facelift.  Your particular facial aging will determine which procedure you’re a candidate for, as well as what results you can expect from your surgery.

So how do you know if you need a full facelift or a mini-facelift? Answer the following questions:

  • Where is your sagging most prominent? The type of facelift you might need can be determined by where your sagging is located.  If sagging is more prominent around the neck and jawline, a mini-facelift might be a more appropriate procedure.  This surgical treatment addresses sagging muscles and skin only in the lower part of the face. If your sagging is more obvious around your face, a full traditional facelift may be a better option.
  • Do you […]

Is Hair Transplantation Painful?

Are you considering hair transplantation, but worried about pain and discomfort after the surgical procedure?  Your question is definitely a common one.  Many men and women who are interested in hair transplantation – a surgical method that helps restore a patient’s hairline – are concerned that they’ll be sidelined by pain during the recovery process.

Fortunately, most patients do not experience any pain during the hair transplantation procedure.  That’s because local anesthesia is used to ensure that the patient remains comfortable throughout the surgery.

However, it’s worth noting that the recovery process does usually involve some pain and discomfort.  As the general anesthesia wears off, many patients will feel mild pain on the scalp; some will have headaches as a result of the surgery.  Your plastic surgeon will prescribe pain medications for you to help manage your discomfort.  This pain medication can be used the first week after surgery.

Other side effects include having a tender scalp, which may make it difficult for some patients to sleep comfortably or properly groom.  Your plastic surgeon will be able to discuss methods you can use to mitigate any discomfort you may feel during your hair transplantation recovery.

It’s incredibly important to not only find an experienced plastic surgeon, but also […]

What Type of Brow Lifts Does Awaken Aesthetics Perform?

Let’s face it – no matter how much sleep you get or how often you moisturize, you’re still frustrated by the appearance of your forehead, upper eyelids, and even your eyebrows.  You want a better solution for drooping eyelids and furrowed brows – plus, you wouldn’t mind looking a few years younger!

If this sounds like you, then it may be time to discover a range of brow lifts now available at Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA.  A brow lift is a surgical procedure that can be performed to correct the following cosmetic issues:

  • Sagging eyebrows
  • Deep forehead creases
  • Stubborn frown lines
  • Excess skin around the upper eyelid
  • Fatty tissue around the upper eyelid

The bottom line here is that if your brow line makes it difficult for you to display normal facial expressions, you may be a good candidate for any of the following brow lift options at Awaken Aesthetics:

  • Endoscopic brow lift: This surgery is the least invasive out of all the options, as it’s performed with lighted telescopes passed through tiny incisions along the hairline. The telescopes are used to reposition the brows for a younger, more natural-looking appearance.
  • Petrichial brow lift: For clients who have a hairline that is positioned further back, the […]

What Can I Do to Rejuvenate and Tighten Skin Around My Neck and Chest?

When it comes to turning back the clock, you may focus on the wrinkles and fine lines that show up on your face…

But what about the ones on your neck and décolletage?

If you’re truly looking to peel years off of your appearance, it’s important to focus on less-treated areas that still show your true age.  Thanks to a combination of gravity, genetics, and the aging process, your neck and chest can play host to a variety of crepey wrinkles and deep-set lines.

That’s why our Board-Certified Surgeon, Dr. Eric Ahn, is pleased to offer Ultherapy treatments for patients who are looking to tighten and tone the skin around the neck and décolletage. This FDA-approved procedure uses ultrasound energy to target the deepest layers of the dermis. Ultrasound waves release heat energy, which causes foundational skin to contract and tighten. Skin immediately appears tighter and firmer, while collagen is stimulated for continuous cellular renewal over the course of three to six months.

Most patients only need one treatment to see ideal results, making it an excellent procedure for those who want visible improvement without the need for continuous upkeep.  Best of all, a single Ultherapy session only takes sessions usually takes only 1-2 hours.

Wondering if you’re an […]

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Laser Liposuction?

Summer is just around the corner, and your calendar is already booked with tons of social outings. You have patio parties, baseball games, and trips to the beach to look forward to.  In fact, with everything you have planned for this Summer, you’ll barely have any downtime for yourself!

Maybe it’s your busy Summer schedule that’s holding you back from considering liposuction.  After all, you want to make sure you have time for all of these activities, PLUS your normal routine. You can’t exactly take a few weeks off to devote to recovery!

Introducing Laser Liposuction

If you’re thinking about undergoing liposuction, there is a new surgical technique that makes for a much more manageable recovery – meaning you can get back to your regular routine faster.

What makes laser-assisted liposuction different is that the laser heat energy melts the stubborn fat, which causes it to liquefy instead of using a metal cannula like in traditional liposuction which literally “bashes” the fat into smaller “chunks”. Both destroy fat which is then removed via suction technology but obviously using the laser makes the process of fat emulsification much more gentle, refined, and tolerable.

What Are the Benefits?

The benefits of laser-assisted liposuction are definitely noteworthy. Consider this:

  • Laser-assisted liposuction causes less damage […]

Is Recovery From an Eyelid Lift Painful?

An eyelid lift – also referred to as a blepharoplasty – is an excellent surgical procedure that can help patients who suffer from excess bags around the eyes.  The eyelid lift works to correct sagging and drooping upper eyelids while removing fat deposits underneath the lower eyelids.  The end result can help patients look more awake and revitalized, all while minimizing the appearance of sagging, wrinkling, and other aging effects.

While blepharoplasty procedures are pretty common (in fact, it’s one of the most popular surgical procedures in the United States), many patients are still concerned about the recovery process.  Common questions include:

  • How long will it take to recover from blepharoplasty?
  • Is the recovery process painful?
  • When can I expect to see results?

If you’re considering undergoing blepharoplasty and want to know more about the recovery process, here are the answers to the most common questions, stated above.

How long will it take to recover from blepharoplasty?

It’s usually recommended that you take 1-2 weeks off from work for the recovery process.  Much of this time off can be attributed to aesthetic concerns; your eyes will be swollen and bruised, so you may not want to be around coworkers during this time.  However, the real recovery length depends […]

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyebrow Transplantation?

Big and bold brows are back!

Everywhere you look, more and more women are embracing their natural eyebrow shape and size. From bold and beautiful to dark and dramatic, eyebrows can significantly transform your facial appearance.

Unfortunately, the same can be said for thinning eyebrows. Sparse eyebrows are usually indicative of one or more of the following factors:

  • Extensive tweezing
  • Aging
  • Genetics

Regardless of why their eyebrows are thinning, many patients are interested in the options available for making their brows thicker and fuller again. While filling in eyebrows with makeup or getting them tattooed is an option, many people are looking for a solution that is permanent, but natural looking. In this case, eyebrow transplantation may be the perfect answer!

What is an Eyebrow Transplantation?

An eyebrow transplantation follows a similar process as general hair transplantation, where the surgeon removes healthy hair follicles from another part of the body and transfers them to the eyebrows. The procedure is safe, straightforward, and comes with a high rate of patient satisfaction. Eyebrow transplantation may use one of two methods:

  • Strip Method: This procedure involves taking a strip of hair from another part of the body – often the head – and removing individual follicles from that strip. These individual pieces […]

How Can Fat Grafting Help Improve Facial Proportions?

Are you confident that the secret to a truly youthful appearance lies in eliminating wrinkles and fine lines?

You might want to guess again: while eliminating wrinkles and fine lines is important for shedding years off your appearance, you should also focus on addressing aging issues associated with facial fat loss. As the body gets older, it begins breaking down crucial fat pads located around the eyes and cheeks. As a result, key facial volume is lost, making wrinkles much more pronounced.

This volume loss is precisely why facial fat grafting has quickly become a popular procedure. Facial fat grafting uses a patient’s own fat to achieve a more youthful appearance; this fat is harvested from other areas of the body, cleaned, and injected into key areas of the face. The procedure has a high success rate, as there’s virtually no risk of the body rejecting your fat. Recovery time is minimal, with most patients able to return back to work within a few days.

One of the many benefits of facial fat grafting is that it allows your surgeon to carefully control what contours are being added. Unlike with implants, a surgeon can carefully inject a controlled amount of fat to the facial area, thus improving […]

Botox vs. Dysport: Is There a Difference?

With so many anti-wrinkle injections available on the market today, it can be difficult to identify what precise treatment will help you achieve that smooth, younger-looking appearance you want. Two main options – Botox and Dysport – use safe and effective neurotoxins to temporarily interrupt nerve signaling between the brain and facial muscles. This effectively stops muscles from contracting, which helps relieve deep-set wrinkles between the eyebrows (furrows) and around the eyes (crow’s feet).

Given that both injectables result in the same outcome, are there any major differences between the two? What should you keep in mind when choosing one or the other for your next anti-wrinkle treatment?

  • Results: Some studies have shown that Dysport injections can produce results earlier than Botox. However, it’s worth noting that this difference is just a matter of days; most patients can see final results from Botox within one to two weeks. Some patients report seeing results last longer with Dysport as opposed to Botox.

  • Body Response: Although Botox and Dysport contain the same neurotoxin as an active ingredient, your body may respond differently to a particular injectable. It can be a learning process, so don’t be afraid to request another anti-wrinkle injectable if you weren’t happy with your […]

How Can Laser Lipo Target Stubborn Fat?

Do you feel like certain fatty deposits have taken up permanent residency around your abdomen, thighs, and flanks?

If you’ve been approaching fat loss the right way – through a healthy diet and plenty of exercise – it might be perplexing to still have to struggle with stubborn pockets of fat. Unfortunately, our bodies tend to be hardwired to cling onto fat deposits, especially around the stomach and thighs. That’s why we struggle to lose fat in these areas, despite eating clean and working out.

What’s the Solution?

If you’re ready to take an additional step towards shaking off that stubborn fat once and for all, then it’s time to consider SmartLipo, a laser liposuction procedure at Awaken Aesthetics in Torrance, CA.!

To understand how SmartLipo works, lets evaluate the process and how it compares to other fat reduction methods out there on the market.

How does SmartLipo Compare to Non-Surgical Procedures like CoolSculpting?

One of the main differences between CoolSculpting and SmartLipo is that the latter requires surgery; CoolSculpting does not.

Today’s laser lipo techniques allow your plastic surgeon to heat and liquefy stubborn pockets of fat for removal. While laser lipo is still a surgical procedure, it differs from traditional liposuction in that only local anesthesia is needed. The […]

What’s The Downtime With a Facelift Procedure?

Face Lift Torrance, CAWhen it comes to facial wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin, skin creams just aren’t going to cut it.

Sure, those serums and gels may have worked when you were barely out of your twenties. But as you’ve grown older and wiser, you’ve noticed that even the most expensive skincare products aren’t delivering on their promises. That’s why you’re interested in one of the most effective, confidence-boosting treatments for aging facial skin…A facelift!

Why Opt For a Facelift?

If you’re looking for a procedure that will deliver on results, a traditional facelift may be just what you’re looking for. A facelift can target some of the most common signs associated with aging, including:

  • Sagging facial skin
  • Severe wrinkles and lines
  • Drooping brow line and eyelids
  • Emergence of jowls
  • And more!

A facelift procedure addresses aging symptoms by tightening sagging facial muscles and skin, which in turn corrects many of the above issues. Careful incisions around the hairline and behind the ears make it possible for your plastic surgeon to access pivotal facial muscles without leaving a scar! These muscles are pulled up toward the hairline to promote a tighter and more contoured appearance. Skin is positioned to […]

What’s the Difference Between an Upper vs. Lower Eyelid Lift?

Eyelid lift Torrance, CAYou may know that an eyelid lift is one of the best ways to counteract sagging skin, undereye bags, and other common signs of aging. But did you know that there’s an upper eyelid lift and a
lower eyelid lift – and there are key differences between the two?

The best way to compare the differences between an upper eyelid lift and a lower eyelid lift is to take a look at the symptoms they’re designed to treat. Take a look at each description to see which eyelid lift procedure is right for you!

You’ll Want an Upper Eyelid Lift If…

Do you constantly look like you’re tired or half-asleep, even when you’re awake and alert? Then the upper eyelid lift may be right for you!

The best candidates for an upper eyelid lift usually complain of tired and heavy-appearing eyes where excess skin is folding over their creases. This effect creates the appearance that the patient is always tired or fatigued, thus adding years on to their natural appearance.

Another key sign you might need an upper eyelid lift is if you find it hard to put on eye make […]

Hairline Lowering and Hair Restoration in Torrance

A large, prominent forehead can be a cause of low self-esteem for many.

Many people cut their hair with bangs, or so that pieces sweep over their forehead, in order to hide it from view and make it seem smaller.

Those who stress over the size of their forehead or worry about the placement of their hairline luckily don’t have to live with it.

In Torrance, hair restoration is an option for hairline lowering.

Read more to find out how this works.

The Ins and Outs of Hairline Lowering

Hairline lowering is also called scalp advancement or forehead reduction surgery. During the procedure, the patient’s hairline is advanced forward a certain distance. In order to achieve this, a small area of forehead skin is adjusted.

Hairline lowering is an outpatient procedure using light anesthesia.

Recovery usually takes about a week, and the desired end result is usually achieved within 3-6 weeks. The surgery is performed so that hair will grow out and hide the scar, so no visible signs of the procedure will be left over when all is said and done.

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Hairline Lowering?

The best candidates for this procedure have skin laxity in sufficient quantities along their scalp. This means the skin is looser, which allows the surgeon to […]

Trendy, Thicker Brows: All About Eyebrow Hair Transplants in Torrance

Thick eyebrows are in: just ask celebrities, actresses, and models.

How can one achieve this look without the headache of daily maintenance, such as using eyebrow pencils, gels, and waxes?

Eyebrow hair transplants in Torrance just might be the answer.

Who Would Benefit from the Procedure?

People with little to no eyebrow hair may want to make their brows look permanently thicker and fuller.

Thin and/or sparse eyebrows can be the result of genetics, illness, aging, over-plucking, or general over-grooming. For instance, women who have continually tweezed and plucked out their eyebrow hairs for years eventually have difficulty growing them back, because the hair follicles have been damaged.

On the other hand, some people are simply born with sparse, light-colored brows that disappear into their skin tone, leaving them with a brow-less appearance.

The solution for these people might be having hair grafts on their eyebrow area to create hair re-growth.

Eyebrow transplants can also enhance the overall look of the face. A stronger, fuller brow creates a frame for the eyes, which emphasizes their size and shape. Thicker brows can also soften the overall facial appearance and make people look younger.

How Do Eyebrow Hair Transplants in Torrance Work?

For eyebrow hair transplants, the patient’s own hair (usually from their scalp, legs, though some specialists […]

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Plastic Surgery in Torrance?

Plastic surgery can modify the face and make a person feel and look more attractive, younger, or self-confident.

However, not everyone is right for this type of surgery.

Good plastic surgery candidates have a few key things in common.

First, they have reasonable expectations. They understand that surgery isn’t a magic cure for low self-confidence, too.

Next, they are in good health. This means that they have no big medical issues, they aren’t overweight, and their bodies are resilient as a result. They don’t smoke, and neither do they drink heavily.

However, for different types of surgeries, some people are more fit than others. Read on to find out what it takes to be an ideal candidate for different types of plastic surgery in the Torrance area.

Candidacy for Different Types of Plastic Surgeries: What It Takes

Face Lift or Neck Lift

Besides the general requirements for a good candidate, others include having sagging, wrinkled skin with noticeable jowls or a double chin. The skin must also be elastic. Those who are extremely overweight are not candidates for face lifts.

Brow Lift or Forehead Lift

Those with a heavy brow are good candidates for a brow lift. Other candidates may have frown lines or deep forehead wrinkles. Those who are balding are not good […]

3 Ways to Keep Torrance Cosmetic Surgery Results Looking Amazing

Cosmetic surgery can offer tremendous improvement in one’s appearance and confidence but a person can also do much to maintain and even enhance their results.

How does one do this? Read more to find out.

3 Straightforward Ways to Maintain Cosmetic Surgery Results for Years to Come

  1. Eat Healthy and Exercise Regularly

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s surprising how many people feel like they can let the ball drop once they look the way they want.

Surgery results need to be maintained. Just like when one loses a lot of weight and gains muscle, all of that hard work will be lost if the person stops exercising and eating right. The same goes for surgery results, especially fat removal and body sculpting or lifts.

Extra fat will stretch out the skin and ruin any results. A nutritious diet and getting the body moving are instrumental in making sure this won’t happen.

  1. Quit Bad Habits

Some habits do harm to the body – and little else.

The most obvious is smoking. Smoking is an unhealthy habit that wreaks havoc on a number of body systems. For instance, the nicotine in cigarettes greatly reduces the body’s ability to heal, and healing is instrumental after surgery.

It can also affect lung capacity and circulation, […]

It’s a Self-Confidence Booster

Surgery, even simple procedures, can drastically boost self-confidence. It can fix a crooked nose, smooth out the skin, enlarge or decrease breast size, and more.

It Can Help Erase the Signs of Aging

Understanding the Hair Restoration Process and Why it Works

Hair loss and hair thinning affects millions of people every year and can cause much stress and anguish about one’s appearance.  It is related to a hormone known as dihydrotestosterone, or DHT.  Though this hormone is found in both sexes, men have higher concentration of DHT than women. DHT works by attacking the roots of the hair follicle, damaging it permanently. Ultimately, the end result is the same: hair loss that usually begins at the forehead and center of the scalp in males and sometimes as diffuse thinning in females. Hair restoration in Torrance can restore the hairline and hair loss experienced and reverse the appearance that comes with hair loss.

Hair Loss due to DHT

Science is still unsure as to why DHT attacks hair follicles. What is known is that high levels of DHT typically lead to hair loss. The hormone goes after the hair follicle at the root, destroying its ability to regenerate fully or not at all. Some may find that their hair grows back very fine while others have no hair growth at all.

The process doesn’t happen all at once. Rather, it starts slowly and spreads, as there are fewer working hair follicles during the growth cycle. The most common visual appearance of hair loss […]

Five Aspects when considering a Facelift

A facelift or rhytidectomy surgery is one of the most empowering procedures in plastic surgery.  Many people undergo the procedure for a variety of reasons, though mostly patients feel their outer older appearance does not match their more youthful energy.  Before going through a facelift procedure, people should consider the following:

Motivation

The right motivation is important when undergoing plastic surgery as it could affect how people feel about the outcome. People should already have a good self-image and simply want to rejuvenate their appearance. A facelift may restore a person’s confidence and self-esteem but it won’t necessarily resolve deep-rooted issues in a person’s life.

Expectations

It’s important people have realistic expectations when undergoing facial cosmetic surgery in Torrance. A facelift can help fine tune a person’s features, reduce wrinkles and enhance their esthetic appeal, which will make them feel better about their appearance. This treatment, however, won’t transform people into something or someone they’re not.  A facelift has the best results when it does not change the patient’s overall identity, but instead rejuvenates their own natural and unique physical characteristics.

Emotional State

People under stress or suffering from an emotional trauma shouldn’t schedule plastic surgery until they have fully recovered. Mental or emotional problems could affect a person’s recovery […]

The Science of Beauty

The psychology of beauty is simple as it is typically tied into health. For example, some subconsciously associate straight white teeth with cleanliness and strength. And a healthy head of hair is synonymous with youth. But what is the science behind keeping up these beauty standards? It goes beyond using a little blush and flossing daily. There are methods of staying beautiful and healthy looking that may seem straight out of a science fiction novel but have made it possible for to rejuvenate and reinvigorate one’s appearance.

Scientific Ways People are Improving Their Appearance

  • Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP Therapy) has been taking the hair transplant world by a storm. The process uses the actual blood platelets and growth factors of the patient to apply to the patient’s scalp where they are in need of an increase of hair. The increase of oxygen and healthy nutrients has been shown to improve thinning hair. It is also effective to use on surgery scars.

An Eyelid Lift Can Awaken Your Eyes

An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can substantially improve the appearance of the eyelids, giving them a more youthful appearance.  The surgery can be performed on either the lower or upper lids, or both.

Whether one wishes to improve the heaviness of their eyelid region, or the eyelids are not functioning properly, an eyelid lift can rejuvenate the areas around the eyes.

Eyelid surgery can treat:

  • Sagging or loose skin that disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid. (This can sometimes impair vision)
  • Unwanted deposits of fat that cause puffiness in the eyelids
  • Droopy bags under the eyes
  • Lower eyelids that show white below the iris
  • Too much skin and/or fine wrinkles on the lower eyelid area

The Best Candidates for Blepharoplasty

The best candidates for eyelid surgery include:

  • Individuals who do not have a serious illness or any type of medical conditions that can stand in the way of healing
  • Individuals with specific goals in mind for eyelid surgery
  • People who have positive outlooks as this influences overall health and healing
  • Those who do not have serious eye conditions
  • Those who are seeking a plastic surgeon in Torrance

One should keep in mind that the eyelids are a facial feature.  When the forehead skin and eyebrows droop, so may […]

Making the Decision to Undergo Cosmetic Surgery

It’s a fact that age can do things to the face that are undesired and unflattering. The primary issue comes from skin loosening and sagging due to gravity, loss of collagens and fat in the face, and the wear and tear from facial expressions. All of these are normal and expected, but not everyone wants to let their age show on their face. Many non-surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic repairs are available on the market, but they don’t last long, and may not go far enough for some. This is the point where the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery in Torrance comes in.

The Argument Against Undergoing Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is an elective choice for all patients.  Because of this, the patients need to be mentally and financially prepared to undergo any sort of elective cosmetic surgery.  If the patient does feel ‘ready’ then it is best to wait for a time when they do feel comfortable with their decision and motivated to achieve the best results.  Additionally, although many cosmetic surgeries can be done without anesthesia, there are several that require anesthesia.  Overall, anesthesia is very safe.  But, there are always some risks with any sort of procedure or anesthesia.  Recovery depends on the type of procedure […]

Hair Restoration through Cultured Cells

Surgical hair restoration has undergone many new advancements in the past decade. Traditional methods of restoration often involved the transplanting of hair follicles from one area to another. This can still be done to excellent effect depending on the patient, but there are also some new and emerging options that could be beneficial to those seeking non-invasive and effective options. Hair restoration through cultured cells is one of these potential solutions.

Restoring Hair With Cultured Cells

Hair restoration through cellular implants has been considered by scientists for some time. With this type of hair restoration, the type of cell that generally grows follicles would be implanted in the area without hair. This would be preferred to older methods because rather than having to remove and implant follicles, doctors could create new follicles altogether. Unfortunately, this strategy would not work in human patients until recently. Studies are now finding that hair can be restored through replaced follicles but only if the follicular cells are cultured first. This gives the cells a chance to grow in a group.  Treatments such as Platelet Rich Plasma are successful for helping restore hair less based upon these principles.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Cellular Implants

There are many advantages to this new form of hair restoration. Because hair follicles would not […]

Female Hair Transplant Surgery in Torrance, California

Female Pattern Baldness

Hormones, genes, inheritance and aging are four of the causes of female pattern baldness. A poor diet and stress can also contribute to the condition. Female pattern baldness is usually not indicative of an underlying medical condition, but can be in some cases. Unless treated, is usually permanent. Some women report that the condition adversely affects their self esteem.

On average, a single hair grows from its follicle about ½ inch each month. The same hair will remain in the scalp and experience growth for from 2 to 6 years. Then growth stops and a resting period takes place. Upon completion of the resting period, the hair falls out.

Baldness takes place when the hair that falls out is not replaced by a new hair growing in its place. Female pattern baldness occurs when the thinning of hair takes place primarily on the crown and top of the scalp. The baldness is usually first noticed when a center part begins to widen. Unlike male pattern baldness, the female manifestation of the condition rarely leads to complete baldness.

Treatments

Minoxidil

One recommended treatment for female pattern baldness is the application of a 2% solution of minoxidil directly to the scalp to stimulate hair growth. Some regrowth can occur after two months. However, if the medication is discontinued, […]

Common Causes of Hair Loss in Women

Hair loss is frequently considered a male problem, but it does occur in women as well. When hair loss occurs in women, it often has different causes than hair loss in men. Here are some of the most common reasons for female hair loss, along with the most frequent treatments used to mitigate the issue.

Genetic Predispositions

Like men, women can be genetically predisposed towards the loss of their hair. Women can determine if this is a possibility by looking at the women in their family; if hair loss occurs frequently in other family members, it is likely to be genetic. Genetic hair loss usually doesn’t have any direct medical treatment. Instead surgical treatments may be required. Patients can also be genetically predisposed to issues that can cause hair loss, such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

Environments and Medications

Environmental issues and certain medications can cause hair loss. In this situation, discontinuing medications and removing the environmental concerns will usually reverse the hair loss. The easiest way to determine this is to narrow down any new medications and environmental changes. One of the most common medical problems leading to hair loss is the process of chemotherapy. In this situation, hair growth usually resumes after discontinuing chemotherapy, though the hair texture may […]

Does Microdermabrasion Shrink Large Pores?

If you answered with “big pores”, then it’s time to admit something to yourself: you’re going to need more than an over-the-counter treatment to tackle enlarged pores.  This type of pore is often caused by one – or both! – of the following:

  • Genetics: If your parents have enlarged pores, then we hate to break it to you – but you probably got it from them. Enlarged pores are typically caused by oily skin, which can stretch the size of pores.  Additionally, oily skin tends to be more acne-prone, which can also exacerbate the appearance of pores.
  • Age: As we get older, our skin begins to lose valuable elasticity. This drooping effect can cause pores to appear larger.  If you worshiped the sun in your younger years, sun damage can also increase the size of pores.

Since enlarged pores are typically caused by age, sun damage, and/or genetics, this means you need something more powerful than a drugstore cream to shrink pores.

About the Power of Microdermabrasion

What Are the Many Uses of Botox?

When you hear the word “Botox”, what immediately comes to mind?

If you’re like 99% of people, you probably imagine an injection that’s designed to help smooth away the toughest forehead lines and wrinkles.  You’d be right – Botox is still one of the most popular anti-aging treatments available on the market today.  Botox contains botulinum toxin A, a type of neurotoxin that “paralyzes” muscles at the injection site.  This effect helps relax the skin above the muscles, creating a smooth and younger-looking appearance.

As it turns out, that’s not all Botox can do.

Botox: A Surprisingly Diverse Treatment

If you’ve ever had painful migraines or embarrassingly excessive sweating, then it’s time to think outside the Botox box.  While Botox was originally developed for the treatment of forehead lines and wrinkles, researchers have uncovered more than a few surprising side effects…

Many of which can solve some pretty debilitating problems.

Let’s take a look at some of the many uses for Botox:

  • Excessive Sweating: If you sweat through prescription deodorant, Botox could help you put an end to an embarrassing problem.  During clinical trials, researchers noted that patients with sweating problems reported experiencing a lapse in their symptoms.  As it turns out, botulinum toxin helps turn off the […]

Radiesse or Juvederm for the lips and mouth area: Which is Best

The first thing people see is your smile – but are you worried that people are only ever going to see your smile lines?

Smile lines are the parenthetical creases that stretch from the corners of your mouth all the way up to your nose.  Also known as nasolabial folds, these lines often appear after decades of repeated muscle movements.  That means years of smiling, laughing, and talking can deepen the crease around the corners of the mouth, resulting in significant wrinkles that can age you.

Fortunately, there are multiple treatments on the market today that claim to minimize the appearance of smile lines.  Two of these treatments include Radiesse and Juvederm.  Both are popular fillers that are used to tackle common aging complaints.  Both can help clients look years younger.  But when it comes down to it, which treatment can help clients treat smile lines…

Radiesse or Juvederm?  The Answer May Surprise You

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler that’s used to instantly create volume in the treatment site, thus minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  Radiesse, however, is too thick to place around the lips, which is why this filler isn’t recommended for lip wrinkles.

Radiesse is a gel filler made from […]

What Should I Expect During Recovery From Facial Fat Grafting

Image-for-Awaken-If you’re looking to increase volume in your face, facial fat grafting could be the ideal procedure for you.  As we age, the skin’s collagen and elastin levels begin to break down, which can cause facial sagging.  Additionally, the face begins to lose precious fat around the cheeks and eyes, which can make cheeks and undereyes look hollow.

Many clients may focus on getting skin injectables to smooth away wrinkles and fine lines; however, if you want to look naturally youthful, it’s important to add volume to the face.  That’s where facial fat grafting comes into play.  During this procedure, a plastic surgeon removes fat from a targeted area – usually the stomach, thighs, or hips – and transfers the fat to sunken, hollow areas of the face.

Facial fat grafting can be a great solution for clients who may think they need a facelift or in combination with a facelift.  When fat is added to the face, the extra volume can lift the contours of your face, soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and even lift the skin.  Facial fat grafting is typically performing under local anesthesia, depending on the patient’s desires.

Recovery is […]

What Should I Expect During Recovery from Facial Fat Grafting

Ever look in the bathroom mirror and wonder how those facial wrinkles seemed to show up overnight?

As we age, our faces lose fat, which can create a sagging effect.  Losing this valuable fat can also cause the cheeks to appearance hollow and gaunt, which further emphasizes facial wrinkles and creases.  That’s why, if you’re looking for the most effective way to treat aging, facial fat grafting is an ideal solution.

This innovative treatment is designed to help replace lost volume in the facial region, as well as minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  Rather than using a filler to provide this volume, facial fat grafting uses the fat from your own body to instantly volumize your face.  This procedure isn’t just popular due to its high success rate; patients also appreciate the minimal body contouring that comes hand-in-hand with this treatment.

During the fat grafting treatment, the patient selects the part of the body where he or she would like the fat to be taken from.  The plastic surgeon uses local anesthesia to numb the area.  After the fat is harvested and cleaned, the plastic surgeon will inject the fat via syringe in key areas of the face.  Your plastic surgeon can […]

Restore Your Hair Naturally with PRP Therapy

Regenerative medicine has been one of the most exciting medical fields in recent history.  Researchers have made multiple discoveries over the years, many of which can have profound implications for clients who want to look and feel younger.  The same can be said for hair loss, as there’s considerable evidence that regenerative medicine can help naturally re-stimulate hair growth.

On the forefront of regenerative hair growth is PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy.   Although scientific research is still relatively new in this field, there’s a growing body of evidence that suggests PRP therapy can help clients restore lost hair without requiring the use of hair transplant surgery.

How Does PRP Therapy Work for Hair Loss?

PRP therapy takes advantage of the many fascinating functions that your blood can do.  Not only does your blood carry oxygen to your muscles, but it also provides your body with the healing powers it needs to recover from cuts and wounds.  These platelets are responsible for helping the body rapidly heal after experiencing a wound, as well fighting off infections.

Thanks to the platelet’s ability to reinvigorate growth and stimulate healing, platelets can also be used to stimulate cell growth.  That’s why PRP therapy is such a promising treatment for clients who’ve been experiencing […]
